We've seen with a million different QB's,even the great ones, when they can't get into a decent rhythm they miss even throws they should make. We never get to see Stroud do his drop and go through progressions normally. I will forever remain baffled that the team made such a piss poor effort to address protection issues this offseason. If nothing else at least scheme something to accomodate the lack of time, draw up some quick hitters, move the pockets, something. Almost all of the meaningful offense yesterday was improv out of system.
When we rarely do get to see Stroud do a routine drop and progression, he kills it. That happened vs (I think) the Niners, right? Last night it was a 54% pressure rate and he’d step back and immediately one or more guys would get through. At one point he got sacked or threw it away and I think I posted something like, “I’m pretty sure every defensive lineman got his hands on CJ on that play.”
Tend to have any specifics to this pretty hollow statement? Otherwise its just baffling bias and total ignorance… much like the Texans decision to fire one inexperienced play-caller (who definitely was “figured out”) and replaced with another one along with 3/5’ths of the OL that had to also be replaced mid-season again.
This is a franchise that already had one regime change (and bottomed out) due to their inability to protect their QB…. And this same franchise also showed that continually hiring inexperienced play-callers on one side of the ball doesnt work for a team trying to contend. It’s like the Texans own every FAFO strategy under the sun… and continue to trot it out every 10-20 years because they literally forget.
No it isn't hollow or ignorant. Just because you have a different opinion it doesn't make it right. I'm not defending Texans management. Stroud has regressed. They aren't responsible for him missing wide open receivers or the defense having to carry us. He's going to get Nico killed. We never get the OL right. David Carr is lucky he's not in a coma. There's no defending CJ. We're winning despite him. Less than 50% passing
All the weapons in the world won't matter without a competent offensive line. That needs to be the focus in the off-season.
If you’ve heard him talk, you’d know David Carr is absolutely in a coma. I completely disagree with you about CJ and I’m cool with that…but the calls for Davis Mills to be subbed in on the road in KC are the stupidest posts that ever existed on this message board, and I heard someone say once we should move Bagwell to 3B and have him throw with his left hand after he blew his right shoulder
I didn't say he was intelligent. He's a really good dude so I give him the benefit of the doubt. I don't think Mills should be subbed in for CJ but he held down the fort during concussion protocol. I love him as a solid backup. As of now I don't want to pay 60 million a year. I'd rather pay Anderson. Bagwell to third were awful takes. I heard them on the radio though
I wasn’t saying you were vouching for Carr’s intelligence…I was just making a joke. Mills is a nice backup QB. I’d absolutely bet on Stroud, and I’m cool with disagreeing about that, because I understand it. It’s the bench him for Mills crowd that just ****ing kills me
We could have 5 all pros but if Caley is gonna call deep drop backs and long developing routes every single time against the chiefs, who just ran the wade phillips engage 8 defense on every single play, we’re gonna get burned. It’s not going to work. I don’t recall even a single quick screen to the outside. doesn’t mean they shouldn’t continue to take steps to address the o line.
Against the 49ers they ran quick slot routes to the flat over and over and over. Used Berrios and Noel super effectively. They were doing some similar things early against the Broncos before CJ got hurt. When a defense brings 7 rushers, especially good ones, they’re gonna get through, quickly. It’s on the coordinator and QB to adjust. I’ll credit CJ for nuking some plays there were toast but he also missed some absolutely wide open receivers. The throws to Hutchinson in the first half and Kirk In the second half immediately come to mind. Gotta hit those.
I got you on that. Understood. I think someone will pay him so we probably lose him. I definitely don't think they should bench CJ but I really don't want to pay him 60 million a year. If he wins this year I'll more than happily eat crow
These same fans complain when he doesn’t throw the ball away when he’s about to get sacked. Then complain about completion percentage citing regression when he has a higher completion this year as compared to his rookie year. Are you trolling?
And you think he just regressed spontaneously or the shitty protection and overall inexperience to develop/scheme/run a playoff level offense may have something to do with it? I’m more than happy to keep letting you have the opinion that 2+2=5.
