Caley didn't do Stroud any favors by continuing to call plays that required long, developing routes when the Chiefs were blitzing every down...call a rollout, a screen, quick slant, draw, effing something...that is why Stroud had 8 incompletions in a row, where he had at least had the awareness to throw the ball away quickly to avoid big sacks. I think defenses respect Stroud's passing, they just know it can disrupted easily.

Stroud did miss some wide open guys, he has GOT to hit those. At the same time, Caley can't be this stubborn/stupid/slow to adjust either.

After those four straight 3 and outs to start the second half I was screaming at the TV to stop with the deep dropbacks.

Sure, but the QB has the keys to the offense in this system, Stroud needs to see the blitz coming and set a hot route or audible to something quick if that's the play call. That's why it appears as if we had a different play book for Mills...it's because he was choosing to do different things that helped the offensive line and limited how often he was blitzed. We see that Stroud has that magic that can make something out of nothing, but I think he relies on that too much rather than making the smart move. I do like that he got the ball out pretty often to avoid major sacks, but he got super lucky on some of those he threw away in the middle of the field.

As to defenses respect for Stroud, I guess what I meant was that they don't respect his ability to handle pressure when they send extra guys. He's not going to see that coming and make an adjustment at the line. If he does that a few times, and is hitting his wide open guys, the blitzes stop and he's not pressured quite as much.

IMO that's what can make him get back to the next level, which is what we need from him if the Texans are going anywhere. We've seen it before, so we know he's capable, we just need him to get back to that and stop sucking because 12 TD's in 10 games is not going to cut it for someone that is supposed to be a franchise QB....I mean, we got more than 10 passing TD's from Davis Mills in his first 10 starts in 2021 and from his first 10 starts in 2022 when the team was 1-8-1. The first 10 games in Texans history with David Carr we only had 1 fewer passing TD's than CJ has given us in his 10 games this season.

We simply have to have better than that, no matter what his insane fans think.

No kidding, did we even run a screen against that **** once??? I know we tried a couple of rb screens but they got blown up. I don’t remember a single quick throw to the WR or anything of that nature. Meanwhile other teams seem to execute that with ease.

When Cris Collingsworth wasn’t slurping Mahomes and the Chiefs, he actually used his eyes and saw what was happening to Stroud. He recognized that Stroud was doing the only thing available on those all out blitzes was for him to throw it away. He said the old Stroud would have taken a sack.

The fact that Stroud is recognizing he doesn’t have to try and be Superman and take a sack, shows growth. Now it’s up to the OC and coaching to adjust. They simply have to do better with the scheme. Can Caley do it? I’m not sure. But it’s good to see CJ doing the smart thing instead of the dumb thing.

Today is a good day! Way to go Texans!! My old partner (KC Fan) capitulated and congratulated me last night, but only after complaining how all the calls and luck had been going against them all season.

I think it's like Rocky 3, he lost the eye of the tiger... flying on private jets, seeing the life of luxury waiting for him... I don't think he has same drive...

I think there can be truth to both of these. We don't really know unless we're in the huddle, see the All22, and know the gameplan, but I've read many criticisms here about Stroud not making the right adjustments at the line in time. And we all can see the molasses paced adjustments Caley and his predecessor made. All together, that makes our offense poo with a QB who is rated at 11th in QBR - which seems about right. Maybe there were some plays in there that Mills could have made a quick audible faster, but there were definitely plays where a DL did a split second shove of one of our linemen and Stroud survived long enough due to his athleticism to make a play. He's not Jordan Love, but he has a higher ceiling than most. I think the easiest fixes are Caley getting better soon with the terrible playcalling speed - that gives me hope, bc it's fixable.

First of all, there's not nearly as many complete morons here as you are claiming.

Secondly, I'm a Texans fan, I don't give a **** that some Texans (or Stroud) fans here throw tantrums when they hear valid criticism.

Also, I don't mind hearing you dipshits, there's no chance I'd hear these kinds of hot takes in everyday life because I have higher standards when it comes to who I associate with in person. It's interesting to hear what the knuckle draggers have to say from time to time....if only to force me to reevaluate my own position and check to make sure that they are based on solid grounds and that you guys really are as feeble minded as I think you are.

As for the last thing, just because there's a loud minority of complete morons here, that doesn't mean that there aren't also some really bright, insightful people here too....they just aren't the kind throwing b**** fits over someone criticizing a player for playing like ****.

    Thanks for asking.

I think you nailed it...most of the time the play call comes in so late Stroud is in a hurry to snap the ball and does not have time to audible at the line.
