Our defense at the rim is terrible

It is a trade off that coaching is happy to take. We attack on the perimeter and the midrange aggressively, if it fails then we have weaker protection at the rim and give high percentage shots but opposing teams can’t exploit that, at least as of now, based on our defensive rating.
because it is not a decision. They have to beat us in other areas first to find the high percentage shots.
And how many other centers are there in the list that are out of the top 10 that qualify for over 100 drives?

It is by design and it looks like it is working so far. I am more worried that this requires too much energy.

I think you really found the magic formula because Reed can compensate 99.7% of what Sengun can do so everything gonna be fine.

Not high number but high %. We rely on the first layer of defense heavily. When that fails it will be a higher % shot but it won’t fail often enough to be a negative.

for all the talk about rim protection, the only real rim protector we have is Amen. Clint was supposed to provide some, but he’s washed. I agree it’s a problem. And it’s surprising it’s still a problem given all the opportunities we’ve had to fix it. That 1st half defense last night was atrocious. Amen was the only guy playing good D.

Should we trade Sengun for AD? Or for Giannis?

Don't worry. That's why we signed Capela. :D

If we’re willing to trade our whole young core for AD, why are you only including Sengun? And for Giannis, we could just send KD plus the young core. Defense matters most.

I cannot believe that even now someone in this forum can write this and the user is not a troll. I think I have seen enough and I don't gain any insight from being here anymore. I should thank you for clarifying it for me. I have one less thing to waste my time now.

Sengun gets in too much foul trouble so he has to lay off contesting.

Once Tari and DFS are back the perimeter defense will improve and Sengun won't get attacked so much.

Imagine a defensive wall on the perimeter of:

    Okogie --- Thompson --- Eason --- Finney-Smirh

Considering he can't play b2b, he would be out for the 2nd half of the season.

Adjusted for position, Steven's defensive FG% at the rim (+5.1% vs league average) is actually second worst on the team behind Tari (+7.3 vs league average). Outside of KD, Amen, and Clint, everyone is pretty bad.

I'm working and don't have time to gather all the data, but you can see it for yourself if you go to the link below, select your player(s) and then look in the bottom left of their stat card (the DIFF value to the right of RIMDFGA).

I think we just have Sengun out roaming around the perimeter being involved in switches and such because that's what he's better at, as opposed to dropping back and protecting the rim, which is not his strong suit. It's the best we can do with the personnel we have. Sengun is never going to be an elite defensive player, but he's good enough that we can still field a strong defensive team if we're mindful about the other personnel around him, and what he gives us on the other end is worth sacrificing having an elite rim protector type on defense.

All of that said, I would love to see what would happen if we could get an elite, switchable defensive big who can also shoot the three ball to play alongside Sengun. Adebayo, Wemby, Mobley, maybe Okongwu or Sarr. But none of those guys appears to be available right now. (And Wemby probably never will be, lol.)

Over 70 points in the paint tonight.

Our effort on D has been going downhill this year big time.

We got blown out early with our starters in again and it’s been consistent climb batter for a while

Jokic and Sengun deserve to play alongside each other.

Yeah, both Adams & Sengun out .... the defense was terrible, but I think that was to be expected missing both of those guys.

I hope they trade Clint after the 15th.
