Home run? This move doesn't count as foul off the shin! I did not think that replacing Green with someone with less production was possible, bur here we are. Having faith in Nick Caserio's ability to evaluate the offensive line is a choice I am unwilling to make. He has made exactly zero above average moves in this area as GM. When *George Fant* is your best move, it says a lot.
Great question, I would be for it if it's for value, otherwise I want to draft his replacement or get a FA (but not in the dam bargain bin) To be fair, I thought he was trash but dam he proved me wrong
Question is what's the $$$? My offer? 4 years, $20M, $8M SB, $10M guaranteed Year 1: $4M ($2M + $2M SB) guaranteed Year 2: $4.5M ($2.5M + $2M SB) Year 3: $5M ($3M + $2M SB) Year 4: $6.5M ($4.5M + $2M SB) potential out season; save $2.5M; Ingram will be 30
You have to bring him back. But why wouldn't he want to test the market. =( leaving us back to ground zero. Texans just released Tomlinson. To think he started 8 games and did the rotation thing with scruggs. Tytus closes the leakage in that gap. We still have one of the worst centers, if that gets replaced by an average one, the protection gets better.
Money, I'll ask you this, if you could sign an above avg C like the Pocic/Karras/Mays in FA but you had to let had to let Ingram walk what would you do? I would pay 26 yr old Mays and draft Rutledge or Dunker to play RG and Xavier Chaplin to play RT. There may be some growing pains there but I could live with that because the upside is so high. Thing is Caserio could probably draft these guys in rd 2-3.
Still a trip to see the formation with Fisher as the 6th OL. On those highlighted plays, Ingram looks like he's the Center.
Ed will be 27 in February. The knock on him has always been his poor pass protection - until this year. Ed will undoubtedly want a big contract. Obviously the fear is that we pay him and then he reverts to garbage. Unfortunately for us, if we don’t re-sign Ed we'll be in need of TWO guards AND a center. My guess is that we will re-sign him and perhaps for more than what we would like.
Pay, overpay, whatever, you need some sort of constant cohesion on the OL so it can function as a unit. Texans haven't had that in a decade or so.
I think this is more of the issue than talent. Do we need more talent, yes, but a bunch more rookie linemen to integrate will take time. I don’t like the OC so far, but it would be crazy to trade him out, unless it’s for a sure fire OC with experience, that uses the same type personnel we are keeping. We don’t have the resources to go crazy in FA, so we will continue to build through the draft.
