That may be true, but you arent voting on all defense and those that due have him Amen level or higher. Not my favorite idea, but it is useful in many ways. Younger than DFS, more durable than Eason. Under control for several years...
Votes don’t get stops, that stuff is irrelevant. He got votes because of his steals stats. He’s as close to amen on defense as sengun is to jokic on offense. Hawks defense is much better with him off the court this season and last season it was identical (technically they were 0.1 pts worse with him on).
Pretty crazy how Giannis was untouchable a few years ago. If you could predict future, moving him then would have been best. But it's hard to turn away from championship appreciation and appeasement.
The Suns were fine but I would not call winning against the Suns a great achievement. Winning against Indy is also not that much but Indy was much more of a dark horse, so the danger lurking there. Also Denver winning against a Butler led Miami but without a true superstar.
Well its premature hindsight cuz its only 25% into the season. I doubt Kon retains his average for the whole year.
Not sure why you think that disproves something. Joe Ingles used to have a positive dbpm and he was awful on defense. It was because they always had Gobert out there to cover for him. Just saying it's not a perfect stat in isolation.
If he was an elite defender, wouldn’t it be reasonable to expect the hawks defense to be better when he is on the floor and not worse? I’m just talking about the on/off, not any advanced stat.
I wouldn't just because OKC exists. You have to be smart about when you go all in, and now is not the time. Realistically speaking we would be heavy heavy underdogs against OKC even with Giannis, so what's the point? I also don't think Giannis will be great for much longer, maybe 1-2 seasons. If we hold on to this core (Amen, Sengun, Reed, Jabari, Tari) we're looking at probably a decade of 50 win seasons. At a minimum, there is value in that, that will be fun to watch on its own before we even talk about playoffs/titles. But beyond that, I think you have to just wait out OKC, dynasties don't last forever. I think we'll be well positioned to go all in when the time is right if we just wait. But going all in right now would be committing to going in against one of the greatest teams of all time. I just don't see why you would do that. You don't go all in with a losing hand.
I think you're missing the point of a redraft. It's an exercise where you intentionally use whatever data you have until that point in time to hypothetically "redraft". It can be done after 20, 50, or 100 games and it focuses on hindsight information. It's ok to admit you made a mistake, I do it all the time. I made a mistake using the word premature, I should have said arrogant when referring to you speaking for every NBA GM. I'm not really trying to debate you, could have just said from the beginning that you don' think Kon can sustain his averages and left it at that instead of explaining how hindsight works when engaging in an exercise that has a foundation of hindsight.
Reaves is 100% the best player on the table, but he turns 28 this season. He's not a piece for the future, but a piece you win now with, which if the Bucks had a good enough roster to win now with Austin Reaves, they wouldn't be trading Giannis in the first place. That trade likely sparks fan revolt, but considering how the Mavericks have a higher average home attendance than the Rockets this year, NBA fans (or at least Dallas fans) are so r****ded that they'll show up for whatever slop that gets put on their plate. On top of all that, a #1 overall pick in next year's draft sweetens the deal considerably. The actual trade that needs making is SAS giving up Castle and Harper for Giannis. I'm fully aware that it limits their window to the next 3-4 years, but Wemby's already suffered a season-ending injury, only played 46 games last year, and is set to miss lots of games this year. I wouldn't build around the expectation that Victor will beat the odds and accomplish what no other player his height managed, playing into their 30s. Victor is already arguably a top 5 player in the league, and the Spurs can beat any team in the west right now outside of OKC and Denver as is. You trade for Giannis and that team can beat OKC right now.
I’m struggling to understand how Wemby and Giannis are a great fit. Not saying they can’t fit, but wondering how it would work. Both are big men that are best initiating from the backcourt. I guess Fox would be gone. I think SA is best to stand pat, but I agree that Wemby’s career will probably be plagued by injury, kind of like Embid with even less longevity. New York is the best fit for Giannis, but not for the Bucks. We’ve been saying it for years, the Bucks are screwed.
