I just don't see the Bucks getting a great young player and a ton of draft capital. It would have been one thing if it were done in the offseason, when it is easier to adjust your team to fit Giannis, and OKC hadn't taken a step forward this season yet (NBA Champs rarely play this much better the season after winning). Houston, SA, Denver, LAL, and Detroit may be the only teams that I think Giannis would impact their championship odds significantly. I don't think LAL and Denver have the assets to get Giannis without using up a lot of current value. Detroit only has its own picks and a young team such that the draft capital sucks. Houston and San Antonio both have young teams, but if they deal a great young player, it lowers the impact Giannis has on the team. This does not seem wise with how good OKC looks. If Houston can convince FVV to get traded some place, I think JSJ, Phoenix 27, 29, and a Houston pick should be what the Rockets offer. Rockets would be ecstatic if they got this trade, but it should be enough that it hurts anyone who tries to top it. I think if Giannis is traded, I think there is a better chance the Rockets are a third team in a trade than the ones that receive Giannis. Basically, try to snipe a good older player for a pick that is easier to match salaries. There is often a team that does something stupid. I would not try to outbid stupid.
I don't understand why Giannis would even want to go to the western conference. Considering his age, joining the Knicks or Pistons is a much easier path to the finals than going through us, OKC, and Denver.
•“The Spurs were unwilling to discuss either the No. 2 pick that became Dylan Harper or Stephon Castle in any potential trade involving Antetokounmpo last June. There’s no indication that the Spurs have changed their thinking in parting with either guard.” Link •“Antetokounmpo becomes eligible on October 1, 2026 for a four-year, $275 million maximum extension through the 2030-31 season. He could become a free agent as early as 2027 if he declines the extension. If Antetokounmpo is traded, he can sign the same extension with his new team six months after the deal.” Link •“The reluctance of teams to trade multiple first round picks into the future is expected to impact the trade packages for Davis and potentially even Giannis Antetokounmpo. "What I'm telling you is that when I talk to executives and these executives are not in trade talks with the Bucks or another for a star player right now, the mood in the NBA right now is not give up four first round picks for anybody," said Brian Windhorst on The Hoop Collective podcast on Friday. "Okay, maybe if Shai (Gilgeous-Alexander) came on, or Victor (Wembanyama)... Like people don't want to do that because the aprons have spooked so many teams. All these teams are worried about getting into apron trouble where they can't reset their rosters. And you get into a situation like the Celtics were in where you got to rip your team down." The age, injury history and contract obligations of Davis and Antetokounmpo factor into the calculus of what teams are willing to give up, especially out into the future. "This is how teams are thinking right now," added Windhorst. "They're a little freaked about the aprons. There ain't going to be no five first round pick trades. I know that we saw those for a while. That's just not going to happen." Even if you said I could get him for the “worst package” (Fred, DFS, Tari, poison pill Jabari, whatever), I don’t know. I’m not saying he’s washed yet but these injuries gonna start happening more frequently, due for a big extension….and then hope? Hope you can beat OKC, Denver, LA, SA. I would do it if San Antonio. Giannis will probably be in the league just as long as Wemby at this point.
He's definitely white and a shooter, but he's not limited to a racial stereotype. I'd take Harper over him. I'd wait until closer to the deadline, but if he keeps playing like he has been and looks like he will continue to improve, I might be willing to give up about as much value for Kon as Giannis. Charlotte wants 4 FRPs for Kon; they can have them if he looks like a high-end role player in the rotation. I would not trade a young player for him. Giannis is well paid. Kon is not which would allow the Rockets to use salary on other players during Kon's rookie contract.
If you're bucks, it needs to be Utah, Hawks, Houston, Spurs, or OKC where the picks coming back aren't from a team with Giannis. I don't see much on spurs roster outside of picks I would want if I were them. OKC may have salary matching issues. Utah has no immediate path to contending. I think Hawks are dark horse team here... trade Trae and that unprotected New Orleans pick in a 3 way deal... pair Giannis and Jalen Johnson....
Yeah, just saying he’s not just a spot up shooter like a lot of white guys get typecasted as. Kon is a ball player. Not sure he would be traded, not if Ball is gone soon
I love basketball, but when I read numbers like that it makes me want to puke. If one of you dudes or dudettes are working on a PhD in economics, consider writing a paper on how the sports industry affects inflation for the general population.
I wouldn't be opposed to this... works in spotrac in a couple weeks: To ATL Giannis Eason DFS Tate To Milwaukee Risacher Alexander Walker Porzingis 2026 NOP unprotected #1 2027 MIL unprotected #1 returned 2027 HOU unprotected #1 To HOU Dyson Daniels Starting lineups HOU Daniels Thompson Durant Smith Sengun 6th man Reed ATL Young Johnson Eason Giannis Okongwu MIL KPJ Rollins Risacher Porzingis Turner Milwaukee can tank next year. They have a lottery pick from NOP this year. 2-3 year rebuild lines up with Risacher extension talk. We give up depth for locked down defender to start in backcourt. Can you imagine Daniels and Amen locking down backcourts???? I think everyone wins in this scenario.
I agree King Kon is amazing. But like I said in a draft we dont know how these players would translate thats why Harper would 100% be the pick for vast majority of GMs because how well these jumbo Pgs fare in the league.
Atlanta is the trade that makes the most sense for all parties if the Bucks really bottom out in this stretch without Giannis and Atlanta really wants to take a shot at winning the east for the next couple of years. Trae + that MIL/NOP pick this year and next and something like a far out unprotected Atl pick. Trae is someone to keep them somewhat interesting to watch fpr their fans but not "good" and they can shut him down in like March-April to bottom out and hopefully get two high picks in this draft and possibly two lottery picks next year with something that could be valuable far out.
It reflects the amount of audience and reach NBA has. NBA has millions of viewers so all those pay a couple dollars to these players for a year and you have these players making 60M a year. Its not that crazy when you see CEOs make so much more money. At least for NBA it is a meritocracy, you can objectively see who the best players are and why they make so much money. For CEOs for example its not clear how they get the job and if they are worth their money.
Kon likely will not be traded. That type of trade does not happen. That said, guys who are good on their rookie contracts provide a lot of value over their salary. A team like Charlotte will just waste that value as they won't have a team while Kon is on a rookie contact unless Miller gets healthy and plays better than he has along with a few other things breaking their way.
What's wrong with speaking with hindsight? That's the entire point of a re-draft conversation; to take the information you have today and pretend you could go back in time.
Depends on whether Milwaukee is running the show here or if it's more about what Giannis wants. Atlanta makes sense for Milwaukee, but it seems like Giannis is pushing for the Knicks.
from hou standpoint you could maybe part with sengun, that would be starting point for the bucs but i guess thay would insist on amen as well which isn't happening...
You wouldn't want Giannis and Amen on the court together, so if you were making a trade....and to be clear, I would not support any trade for Giannis, you'd want the trade to center around Amen, not Sengun. However, you can't really do that kind of a trade because Amen doesn't make enough money. Basically there's no way, other than if FVV agreed to the deal, to get it done without both Sengun and Adams in the deal or some other drastic overpay for old man Giannis like Sengun, Sheppard, and Smith. I think it's likely the Bucks are throwing the Rockets name out there, but I doubt there's any real interest.
