They’re really good. I see a lot of other teams give massive props to our guys for honest and hype commentary
No, Bullard is terrible. Worrell I like him but he's too old. He's not as sharp mentally as he once was.
Hollins and Ackerman aren’t great, but man, I hear much worse when watching other teams play broadcast crews that are easily worse than them, and I don’t think it’s even up for debate: Warriors, Mavs, Suns, OKC, Cavs, and Sixers if I had to listen to them every night, the game would have to be on mute or I’m watching the opposing team’s stream Bill Worrell and Bullard were so bad the last couple of years it was astonishing…love what Bill meant for the organization, but he was acting like he had dementia, and Bullard was a square
I actually think Ackerman's pretty great and Hollins plays his part. I haven't really gotten annoyed with him until they started this whole "College ID" promotion and it seems like talking about Hollins USC/UCLA college ID is the bit that won't go away. They feel like friends to me, and that includes Vanessa. I suspect when (not if) Vanessa moves to the national stage the band will lose it's chemistry and eventually Hollins will move on as well. Just a premonition.
Nope, you don't stand alone. There were lots of people that couldn't stand Calvin and there were many threads as such, at the time. You either loved him or hated him. There wasn't much in between. Look, he is a very outgoing, loud charismatic dude that wears flashy suits, who happens to be black. If that ain't your vibe, totally understandable. You can't make it in this world by pleasing everyone. But you know who he did please? All of his mistresses. But you and I can agree on Van. Nope.
Personally, I'm not a fan of either one. Craig is annoying and Hollins picks on certain players and raves about anything a UCLA alum does.
Hollins is better than drexler. Id rather him than Reggie Miller or Doris Burke. But yea hes a repetitive homer and says some pretty wild hyperbole alot. Ackerman is great.
Don't have an issue with Craig, but not a fan either. Hollins is taking a job away from a former Rocket.
bullard during and right after covid was annoying af. his political interjection crap got old. Im watching basketball, I dont need your covid cult preaching. and bullard was so repetitive. I will always love bill worrell, but the dude was Biden up there at the end. It was sad to listen to. Old age caught up to him.
Listen to the one half of the Raptors commentators and let me know if you still hate our crew. They're just too generic, but at least not bizarre. Side note, I hate listening to Boston broadcasts because they spend the entire game saying "we". "We need to make more shots", "I didn't like how we handled Sengun on that play". Bros, you aren't on the team.
The radio broadcast is awful. I hadn’t listened in a few years.. I remember Matt Thomas as formerly being good at his job? Amazing what a few 20 win seasons can do to a radio guy.
One positive I'd say about Craig is that, he at least seems prepared. Something as simple as pronouncing the names of players on opposing teams. Portuguese player: Neemias Queta (Kay-tah) Oscar Tshiebwe. (Sheeb-way) Lesser known guys: 8,9,10th players. Less featured bottom teams. Rookies, two-way guys, Afro/Euro names, he's usually on-point or pretty close.. Names many often might not get correctly if unfamilar. At the beginning, lot of people messed up saying: "Antetokounmpo". If you're Perk, maybe still has some issues with it. Couple seasons before Wembanyama got drafted, Antoine Walker was on a Celtics podcast, and they started talking about propsects: Walker was really really struggling with pronuncation. Can tell he never watched or followed Victor. Now, the name is 2nd nature to active NBA fans. When pronuncations go correctly, no one bats an eye. But when it's said wrong, the mistakes are glaring (especially to the home team fans). Alperen Sengun's rookie year, how often did opposing team's announcers got it wrong. Can tell they didn't bother to prepare. Annoucing is still a job. There's the air-time, then there's prep and show notes before going live.
One thing I appreciate about Ackerman is he’s kept up the UH love from the Worrell Era. Maybe that’s a directive from Fertitta since he’s UH’s benefactor, but Ackerman is a Houston guy, in general. There will never be another Bill Worrell, but life goes on and you make the best of it…
It's obviously personal preference. I can't stomach Hollins and the friends I have that still watch Rockets games share my sentiments. He's extremely off putting and we can do better in my opinion. Wouldn't take much
I don’t understand the Craig Ackerman hate at all. Dude is extremely passionate about the rockets and funny as ****
