Sengun. This has probably been proven already. The Bucks have done nothing since Jrue and Middleton have left/got hurt. Sengun offers more in terms of play making, being able to defer to others.
He’s on his way to being at least close to that level. He just turned 23, not sure there’s a cap on what he can become. He’s shooting almost 40% from 3. We know Giannis isn’t getting better, he’s on the down side of his career
Mainly contingent on Sengun being a better jump shooter than Giannis, but I largely agree, even though Giannis is still (for now, maybe not for long) the better individual player. I think the odds of the front office trading arguably our best player for Giannis are very low. That's not the move championship contenders make, they add onto their core, they don't sidegrade from it. It would be a very strange play at this stage. The more interesting question would be, if it was some package centered on Amen as the centerpiece instead of Sengun, would you do it? Giannis at his best is basically a much better version of Amen. Personally, I'm a hard no, because I think Giannis already gets hurt way too much and is likely approaching the cliff on his athleticism-based style of play, whereas Amen is on the upswing and will surpass him sooner or later. Just a longer window with Amen, and still the upside that he becomes nearly as good of an individual player at his peak. But the argument for that would be, Giannis is currently much, much better than Amen, and if a Sengun/KD/Giannis trio wins you a championship, then it's worth it? Just such a huge gamble though and I don't think we need to gamble, personally. Have to keep in mind that when Giannis was in his third season, his numbers were comparable to Amen's right now. 17, 8, and 4 on 50% shooting. Progress is not linear and all that, and I'm not saying Amen will ever be the MVP of the league, but I don't think he's peaked either.
He can’t shoot, can’t hit FTs, relies too much on athleticism and is 31. As soon as he has a Rockets jersey on, the refs are gonna swallow their whistles. Also ball handling/turnovers, decision making, off ball defense and leadership are all sus. I would not even take a flyer on ‘Mr. SPIN SPIN DUNK’. He aint even that good. Alpi is baby joker, high IQ, still rising, is 23 and could probably play at high level for 15 more years
Just gonna post this every time someone suggests trading him for him. Easier to build around Sengun than Giannis/Amen. Already have a shorter version of Mr. Run & Dunk. Trade Amen before you trade Sengun. 6’7 Westbrook/Simmons hybrid. If Simmons/Westbrook had a baby, that’s him. (I know, the Amen fanbois are gonna get their panties in a wad and take offense. Hey, Simmons was good (until he wasn’t, back/knee injuries, exposed in the playoffs)- won ROY; All-Star 2nd year; All-Star, All-NBA 3rd team, All-Defensive 1st team, 4th in DPOY in 3rd year; All-Star, All-Defensive 1st team, 2nd in DPOY in 4th year.) But I’m not building around Ben Simmons or Russell Westbrook or Andre Iguodala or Shawn Marion. “NUH UHHHH!1!111! He’s already better than all those guys!11!1!!!” It’s always “Trade Sengun”. Guess Sengun will have to keep proving you & everyone else wrong. A year ago, two years ago, “Ehh he’s likely a finished product. Trade him.” … “Ehh, he’s not even as good as Sabonis. Trade him.” … “Trade Sengun, keep Green.” … “Trade Sengun, keep Amen.” … “Trade Sengun, keep Jabari.” Amen: “sky is the limit! Potential is through the roof!” Sengun: “ehh probably as good as he’s gonna get.” This will be both their age 23 season. (Sengun is whopping 190 days older)
I think it's reasonable to argue that Sengun will never be as good as Giannis is currently. I'm not sure I'd necessarily agree with such an absolute statement, but it is a reasonable position. The problem is that Giannis' skills will deteriorate as he ages, and there will be a time when Sengun passes Giannis. And that time may be closer than most expect.
Don't touch it. Giannis is a 30 year old big man with leg issues. That's the kiss of death. Let some other idiot like Nico overpay for him.
The amount of absurd stupidity stuns me. Yeah, totally sane to trade for the guy who has all his playoff chokes removed from memory for some reason just because he won a ring one year, and will fall off a cliff sooner rather than later when his athleticism begins to fail him. Also, how good is he when he gets the whistle that Houston players get and a lot of his bulldozing into the paint become offensive fouls?
On Jokic, he does have one underrated defensive talent that rarely gets mentioned...He's so good at offense that the other team has to play someone that sucks offensively to guard him often.
I’m not trading Alp, Amen and probably Reed-unless it’s for a top 3-5 player in the league under 25. And even then, I’m not sure about that. There’s so much upside in those 3 and we’re doing really well while they’re super young. I would ride it out and see. It’s not like Giannis has done anything in a while to begin with, even in the east. Add in the injuries and it’s just a no from me.
No thanks. Giannis is an amazing player, there's no intelligent way to dispute that, but.... ...we improved our future when we traded for KD because JG wasn't the guy we needed him to be and KD's jumpshooting game ages well. Dillon Brooks was the only loss in that trade. KD has improved our offense, but not having JG (and FVV) taking a ton of low percentage 3s is arguably an even bigger reason our offense is so much better this year. Trading for Giannis mortgages the future on a gamble that father time isn't breathing down Giannis's neck right now. Father time is undefeated and laughs at GMs that trade their future for a player who's about to be on the downside of his career.
Giannis' game depends upon athleticism which, at his age, will begin to decline rapidly. He's battled injuries the last few seasons. That'll impact his athleticism, too. Sengun is a budding first-team All NBA player whose game will age gracefully like Jokic's. OKC is 20-1 and might have the #1 pick next year. We need our window to be long, not short, and Giannis significantly shortens the window.
Giannis is an unreal player and we would absolutely be better off if he was on our team. That said, I wouldn’t trade Sengun for him, but perhaps an Amen/picks package.
We’ve come a long way, from wanting Sengun traded for Myles Turner to now hesitating to include him in a deal for Giannis. It’s crazy how a former Bruno Fernando backup has become the centerpiece of superstar trade talks.
take the math out of sports atp because what is this list Maxey over Cade in any MVP race and Harden top 10 when his team is 10 games below .500 is crazy…I wouldn’t even publish this work if that’s what my model was showing
These are great stats but it's based on voting. I'm sure the voters look at these stats but the vote is based on a lot of conjecture and assumptions as well. SGA, Jokic and Luka are legit. Cade is a dark horse. Giannis, Maxey, KAT Barnes, Harden (lol) won't even get serious consideration. I'm happy with Alpy being in just outside the top tier at this point in his career.
