I think he cares very much. He is ultra sensitive about his image and polls are a snapshot reflections of how he's viewed. It's why the sharpie version of polls (and nearly everything else) is the de-facto behavior from him, his administration and many of his supporters. These lies and falsehoods are a way to influence opinion (and polls).

If the illegals would simply follow directions and self-deport, then law enforcement wouldn't have to guess as to who is illegal and who is legal. Illegals are putting ICE in a difficult spot by refusing to come forward. As a result, there will be some innocent people who must endure a temporary hold before being released while the process runs its course. Again, the fault of illegals for not self-deporting and making ICE go find them.

Of course it's possible. But if she was here illegally (and working in a medical setting besides), why was she released by ICE a few hours later?

They think their ends justify their means, but it seems clear to most of us that ICE is taking liberties and crossing some bright red lines with their aggressive tactics. Will be interesting to watch some of the lawsuits against them play out. Cold comfort to innocent people who get traumatized in the meantime.
