Nice one. I was wondering if Alpi and Reed can recreate some of that Stockton to Malone magic. Maybe they could watch videos of those games from the dominant Jazz years and see if they can do something similar with some wrinkles. They do have the skills.

I think he was pressed into a role that was too much for him. As a role player off the bench I bet he plays good defense, organizes the team and takes way fewer forced jumpers. I don't think it will change anyone's role except our backup PG. It's a plus imo.

Hopefully. I expect he will have some bad stretches, but he's a starter long term in my opinion.

Turns out this lineup seems to work pretty well.

the problem is we are wasting Reed with the starters he just dribbles and gives it to KD, plays too timid with him

Meh. Give him some time. He'll find his grove with them.

We can't just avoid playing Reed with our best players. He's gonna have to learn how to get his.

And if the lineup as a whole is dominant with him in it, he isn't really being "wasted"

What's important is that he makes those around him better, his individual points scored is irrelevant.

This idea of "wasting" Reed with the starters is a new level of stupidity, even for CF. He was incredibly impactful and great with the starters. Its not gonna be about points every game.

I expect he'll be streaky for a while. Some games he'll go off for 25+, others he'll score less than ten. But, as you said, if the lineup dominant, that's all that matters - his gravity is clearly helping KD and Sengun.

    Reed / Holiday
    Amen / Okogie
    KD / Eason
    Bari / DFS
    Sengun / Adams or Capela

    Great googly moogly.

Only if your logical reasoning ignores the alternative completely. Every decision is a pro with a con. If his impact with the bench coming off is greater than just walking up and handing KD the ball then it is a very valid point. I agree that its not just about points but if you have someone walking up and dumping it off everytime they lose their groove and before you know it the benefit of having defenses adjust gets lost too.

It wasn't an issue this game, but lets be real the Jazz are not even a G-league team on the floor. Our sights are at the post season when teams like DEN and OKC matter. When playing them these decisions will be amplified

Even better if we stagger Sengun/KD/Reed minutes so that one of them is always running with the bench unit. Those are the players who pull the most gravity and make easy opportunities for the other players on this team. Reed also has shown incredible skill when it comes to reading the court and passing.

If anything, the playoffs are why we should keep Sheppard in the starting lineup. Having depth is incredibly important during the regular season. Having a dominant starting five, however, is what wins in the playoffs.

for a normal player I'd say yes, but Reed hasn't fully figured himself out yet.

    We'll see.

I think it can work, its just that KD and senguin have gotta swing a to Jabari And Reed more when they're open. They tend to just ignore them most of time time (denver was the worst example of this, had htey passed even 2-3 of their bricks we would have won)

I don't want to read too much into a single game, but Reed starting did play out pretty much the way I imagined.

He played the most of anyone, yet only managed to take 3 threes and 8 total field goal attempts (only 5 of which were in the halfcourt).

That's his lowest FGA in 10 games, only the second time in his past 11 games where his scoring wasn't in double figures, and a season low in 3 point attempts. This is coming off of career highs in all three of those areas.

Let me be clear: today's lineup worked fine, obviously. We destroyed the Jazz without breaking a sweat, and Reed was good despite not scoring. But my commentary isn't about today, it's about the long-term. And personally, I would like to see Reed continue to get the majority of his minutes as "the man" on the second unit where he can accelerate his individual development.

If he does continue to start, I hope the usage and shot attempts begin to level out a bit between him and the big three, such that today looks like an outlier. But I'll say this...if Reed ever plays 30+ minutes in a game and only takes 3 threes, he's being underutilized. Period.
