Fred has served his purpose here actually, he may want to transform the Wizards, the Hornets or the Raptors (who are good) of this world. Or ironically Phoenix and reunite with Dillon. 1 or 2 years of run before he heads out. Hats off.
This 100% The Jalen homers were screaming he gout double teamed all series long after the 2nd game. This was NOT TRUE, FVV got most of the double teams. They were giving Jalen the lane and inviting him in with a person shadowing behind, it was so easy to neutralize his dribbles. I watched play by play in the last game, Jalen was maybe doubled for 3 possesions.
Just reading that makes me so happy to finally be past watching so many games like that with Jalen taking the majority of the shots. Our offense has gone from to .
The Team role players were really bad last Playoffs vs the Warriors in shooting 3s. Dillon Brooks on both sides was terrible, can't shoot or defend, Reed scared to shoot, Amen terrible form, Alperen flat footed 3s, Tari injury prone, were all bad and inconsistent. Only Fred and Jabari Smith were shooting well from 3. If the players are this terrible in shooting 3s and they clogged the paint, how can Jalen Green drive to the basket and getting fouled while driving inside and he has terrible shooters outside. Ime Udoka absolutely was terrible in not playing Aaron Holiday and Reed Sheppard in the Playoffs, that was unforgivable. Looking at how Aaron Holiday and Reed Sheppard outplayed Stephen Curry last game, makes you think about Ime Udoka Coaching on offense, Spamming Steven Adams getting torched by Buddy Hield on switches.
I heard Stan Van Gundy quote Hubie Brown yesterday and it made me think of Reeds growth, and for that matter, all of our young all-stars in the making. Here’s a gloss “the NBA is full of players who can dribble, pass, and shoot. What separates the great ones from the rest is knowing just when to dribble, pass, or shoot.” That’s BBIQ. I’m also thankful FVV has been court side for this run of games for Reed. With as much time as I see the two together on the sideline it really makes you wonder if Fred hasn’t had a big hand in his success.
Reed is looking great but he’s hasn’t lapped Jalen quite yet. JG has 51 regular season 30 point games and nine 40 point games Reed has one 30 point game.
I said it years ago, Jalen Green going away is addition by subtraction. The team is better without him. DD
Reed hasn't lapped Jalen, but raw point totals without considering efficiency is silly. Green's assist ratio was subpar for his position too.
It's time to move on and stop talking about draft bust Jalen, he might as well be Royce White or Sam Dekker when it comes to relevance. EVERY Rockets draft pick that is still on the team is better than him, it's not something special.
I think the point was that Reed is a better basketball player today than Jalen Green is. If multiple 30 pt games were the metric then Lauri Markannen is better than Sengun and Cam Thomas is better than everyone on the Rockets roster outside of KD. Truthfully, I'm not sure anyone would take JG over Reed in any capacity right now. Not to win a game today, not to build a team around and not for the future.
"Lapped" is of course an exaggeration as Reed is only just started. But if we played Reed instead of Jalen in the playoffs, we might have beaten the Warriors.
Reed is deceptively quick knowing how to use speed to his advantage. It’s rare to see at a young age as you usually see it with players late in their life. He is playing an older man’s game. Pure athletes or those blessed with athleticism usually know only one speed, which is full speed which got them where they are and has been their advantage. Reed plays at different speeds, for example his drive against the GSW where he was driving in at full speed then slowed down and took it up a notch again. That was very Steve Nash and CP3 like. It’s harder to teach and defend against as it’s less predictable. Luka and now AR15 have that in their game. It’s much easier defending someone going one speed and timing their jump. Jalen was extremely fast but predictable on his drives. Amen also uses speed to his advantage but generally it’s fast then slow, very Euro step like. Reed is fast then slow then fast. It gives him just enough space to prevent blocks from a fronting defender but less so from the rear. Anyone thinking Reed isn’t quick or fast is mistaking his use of speed and energy. He’s far from just a 3 pt sniper on the court, he is a complete player on both sides of the court.
Lol I love Reed but let’s be serious we saw elite stretches of play from JG for weeks at a time. He just couldn’t be consistent.
Yeah, I love what Reed is doing so far, but we need to remember that he's basically had 11 (out of 16) good games this season, and it's a small sample size. Odds are up significantly that he's going to be a good player, but we need to be cautious about leaping to strong conclusions based off a sample that's not much bigger than, say, Linsanity.
Jalen had an 8 game streak of competent basketball.... but let's not pretend he was ever a good basketball player.
And yet here is ANOTHER example of being patient with the young players .. you would think everyone already learned that lesson with the other young core members
