Why do you have to drop your wifi? I had just wifi with them for years. Only reason I switched is that our HOA has a deal with Astound that is significantly less expensive for the same speed.

Even with Xfinity, you can use your own router. Just look up the ones they suggest. You do lose some technical support if you use your own.

Interesting thread but not what I expected from the title.

Before I finally got Fiber, I had my own cable modem and wifi router with Xfinitiy. As @ROCKSS said, renting is a money pit. Xfinity will support troubleshooting with your own modem, and 99.9% of the time router issues are fixed with a reboot.

With AT&T fiber I still use my own router instead of the built-in router that came with the fiber modem. Better antenna and I can control the DNS settings with my own router, meaning I can use my PiHoles to block ads on my network.

15+ years cord cutter. I have an antenna for local stuff and I rotate streaming services. My average spending is less than $10 a month.

roku has some good black friday deals

How much do y’all spend per month on internet service? I use Comcast and not real sure if I’m overpaying. Need dependable service foe streaming and wifi generally.

I got rid of Verizon and replaced with all streaming except Fox One which in my opinion isnt worth it. If the Astros make the World Series again I'll get it, otherwise there is very little on Fox that is all that great - the animated stuff is on Hulu, their TV shows otherwise are not compelling, cable news in general is moronic. $20 a month for them seems insane.

I'm about to dump Peacock also.

Netflix and Apple have the best stuff, Prime is already paid for in my Amazon sub, and the ESPN/Hulu/Disney is massively discounted through my phone. I'm good.

Spectum is $90 for straight internet...

Then there's also bundled tv that's another $150 plus "taxes and fees", but they give her (she has to have the Hallmark Channels) a whole bunch of streaming services for free: Disney/Hulu/Espn/Paramount/AMC+/Peacock/HBO/etc...everything but netflix and apple

My streaming service is a boatload of 4k and Blu ray movies with a high end audio and TV setup for music. I spend thousands of dollars on my entertainment, but I have things you never will see on streaming services at the quality that I have. I have all of the little rascals talkies on Blu ray and the best quality you can find. I have a collection of about 300 foreign films both modern and classic.

I also bought a stereo system without any Internet services (Advance Paris A10 integrated amp, an atoll dr100 CD transport and a pair of wharfedale evo 5.1 speakers. I also have a 4k Sony x800m2 and a Sony 55in a75l OLED. And I do have Internet in the house, but I don't really need it. I would have plenty of entertainment options without it. I do stream titans games with the Sunday ticket. But again, it is more of a convenient thing and I can afford $75 a month so I buy it because why not.
