Reading about the Sox planning to add a bat after getting Gray made me wonder who would say no to this trade: Astros get: 1B Tristan Casas CF Jarren Duran Red Sox get: 3B Isaac Paredes 1B Christian Walker $30M ($15M 2026, $15M 2027) Astros lineup would be very good if Casas reverts to his 2022-2024 form: CF Duran SS Pena DH Alvarez 3B Correa 2B Altuve 1B Casas C Diaz LF Sanchez RF Smith I think the Sox probably say no but I think there’s a case it improves both teams.
That doesn’t support your claim. Thinking the Astros were originally asking about another player is different than the Dodgers thinking they were actually sending someone beside Yordan.
What might it look like if Houston shockingly embarked on a full rebuild? Orioles get: SP Hunter Brown OF Jesus Sanchez Astros get: IF Jackson Holliday OF Dylan Beavers SS Wehiwa Aloy Tigers get: SS Jeremy Pena Astros get: SS Brice Rainer SP Troy Melton IF Izaac Pacheco Red Sox get: 3B Isaac Paredes Astros get: SP Payton Tolle SP Connelly Early Mets get: DH Yordan Alvarez RP Josh Hader OF Jake Meyers Astros get: OF Carson Benge IF/OF Jett Williams SP Brandon Sproat SP Jonah Tong Resulting roster: DH Altuve 3B Correa LF Beavers 1B Walker SS Holliday C Diaz RF Smith 2B Matthews CF Cole Bench: Melton, Dezenzo, Garver*, Allen SP: Javier, Tolle, Sproat, Early, Arrighetti, Melton RP: Abreu, Harvey*, Sousa, King, Okert, McCullers, Pearson Top prospects: Tong, Aloy, Benge, Williams, Rainer, Pacheco, Neyens, Alvarez, Janek, Brito, Ullola, Pecko Astros would have a cleared out payroll (Walker, Harvey, and Garver would be midseason trade candidates, leaving Altuve, Javier, and Correa as the only contracts on the books after 2026), a top ~8 farm system (with a big jump into the top 3 expected after the next draft/deadline), and a big league roster that projects for about 78 wins (but with massive upside).
I'm Jim Sheridan. Thank you for the support and kind words. Gabe is @Wulaw Horn who also frequents this board. We "met" here.
Kris Bubic would fit nicely. He has #2 stuff and performance history. He is lefthanded He is projected to make $6M in his final season of arbitration. The problem is that the Royals are looking to improve their offense at 2B and outfield. The Royals want MLB ready players as they hope to compete. I don't think the Astros will give up Matthews, Melton, or Cole for a rental. This could be a fit for Jesus Sanchez but with the value of starting pitching skyrocketing another major piece or even two would likely be needed. Jake Meyers is not a fit because Kyle Isbel is essentially a Jake clone who hits lefty. It has become apparent that all SP is going to be expensive. (my trade value based on fangraph projections) Jesus Sanchez ($4.5M), Joseph Sullivan ($15M), and James Hicks ($3M) for Kris Bubic ($18M) Sanchez fills their need for corner OF Neither prospect in the top 5 Sullivan is behind Melton and Cole plus there are other prospects who can replace him (Spence, Gomez) Hicks has huge momentum from AFL but is Astros 10th best pitching prospect according to MLBpipeline and 13th by Fangraphs. It's a lot to give up but it fills a hole without much impact to the farm system or adding payroll. For the Royals it fills a hole and adds 2 mid level prospects who are a year away and don't need to be on the 40 man roster.
I like it. Fair value, improves both teams. Main complicating factor is that Bubic ended the season out with a significant injury. He was cleared to start throwing this month so he should be fine, but his medicals could mess up any potential trade.
Man o man would that be cool. If we aren't gonna win big then let go of all or most of em and bring in gigantic haul. Then win huge 2 years from now?
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/11/brewers-reportedly-concerned-about-payroll.html Brewers like high ceiling pitching prospects that they can run through their own car wash similar to what the Astros do. Miguel Ullola : 70 grade fastball and had 10.37 K/9 in AAA last year. Ethan Pecko has a 60 grade fastball that Fangraphs says can develop to 70 and K/d 10.69 per 9 between AA and AAA last year. Ullola and Pecko for Freddy Peralta who is only asking $8M before becoming a FA in 2027. It's a lot to give up for a rental starter, but $8 is a GREAT salary.
Curious why you trust Dana to the extent you do Not saying he has been terrible But three drafts in and we have 1 back end top 100 guy Yes, we drafted late in round 1, but a ton of guys drafted after us are way more prospect value Again, not trying to rip on Dana as I personally think he is a year away from really having enough data to truly evaluate him, but the absolute full trust in him is a bit confusing to me looking at the actual results so far
Only if you are willing to move Yordan, Brown and Pena if it doesn’t work out, cause we would immediately have the worst farm in the game and it wouldn’t be close
