Yeah - the mayor of Chicago is an idiot. The reality is that the job simply doesn't have the appeal that it had in the past. The power of the mayor in Chicago has largely been neutered, so the candidates tend to not be very good. Whatever, the city is exceptional and shockingly safe for it's size and the amount of wealth. There are 5-6 small areas in the city where all the violence takes place - and that is basically it. A year or two ago, they broke down the homicides in the city and there were only two white people murdered in the city in the first 8 months. There is black on black gang violence and Hispanic on Hispanic gang violence and that is just about it. I have been very critical of some of the issues in Chicago - but overall, if you are not poor and black or poor and Hispanic and you don't live in a handful of places, you are safer than anywhere in the USA and even Europe.
This is always the case. Rarely is an entire city engulfed by violent gang bangers. Of course, there are nice areas and wealthy parts that are safe. However, Chicago is an absolute joke. Extremely violent catch and release city. Needs cleaning up. Needs to get away from these race grifting dumbasses that run that city. Don’t be fooled by Kimmel’s guy walking around a safe part of the city, being sarcastic about the violence there.
