How embarrassing - thank you for clarifying - I see that now. The AI told me otherwise but I'm now seeing where it was wrong in that small detail which unfortunately changes nearly everything I said. Appreciate you catching that - last thing I wanted to do was misinform. So TLDR, Amen is likely not eligible for Rose Rule extension unless he happens to make an All NBA team this year or wins DPOY(both of which seem highly unlikely).
I mean I only asked because it was confusing to me as an English speaker as well - the difference between 'All NBA teams' (as in a branded single award category) and " 'All NBA' teams" (as in multiple select NBA players to make up a team awards) is subtle to say the least because both cases exist.
Rockets need to trade Amen for Paolo so that Ime can achieve his dream of starting Adams-Sengun-Durant-Smith-Paolo
Not really. Harden used to have no agent and never had any contract issues whenever he was re-upping each time. He did have that issue with Morey but that seemed like Morey went back on a "wink wink" deal which is a different thing from regular contract negotiations. Really the only major factor during the extension, assuming Amen isn't playing like a no-brainer max by the end of the season, will be whether he think he can play himself OUT of a max contract the following year. Because at this point Amen will absolutely get a max contract in RFA from a rebuilding team if he gets there. But there's a chance that injuries and lackluster play can change that. And that was a risk that Sengun clearly didn't want to take. But then Sengun did have that injury and he was getting paid a lot less than Amen on his rookie deal. So circumstances that led to him taking a lot less than the max may not present it self when Amen is at the table.
You mean the dad that knows for a fact that 10 GM's consider his son a star? Yeah, I don't think it's even ethical for him to take a discount. That's malpractice. I hope Ime just quits ruining the paint for his wings and we never find out about these things.
this. he will not be eligible for the Supermax, but he will get the rookie max, no doubt at all. He made 1st team all-defense after starting about half a season for goodness sakes. Some people only watch 1 half of the court.
As of right now, Amen isn't worth the max, but he could improve. Pretending to be a PG has lead to the worst basketball of his career which will definitely cost him money if he doesn't bounce back
If they offer him the max then the Rockets will match. If they dont offer him the max then Rox shouldnt offer him the max. If Amen insists on taking the max he should get the Eason treatment and be a RFA. Rockets have a standard, and that standard is Alperen Sengun. Sengun is an all star making 38M, Amen should be better than Sengun if he expects more than 38M.
If he is making the max it doesnt matter right. When his contract expires you just renew him for the max again.
I agree he will get the regular rookie max extension if he demands it at the end of the day. My only point of contention is that I can see him agreeing to take less if he thinks it will help the team stay flexible to win a championship. I can also see him demanding every penny, to be clear, I don't know what he's thinking. But I absolutely agree his open market value is max money, and if we refuse to offer it and he wants it, he will bring back a max offer sheet.
He is definitely a "star", but the question is whether he's a franchise player. Not that true franchise players are the only ones who get max contracts... Anyway, I'll see myself out before we find ourselves in some silly semantic debate. We're clearly at an impasse in terms of how much he's worth, but you might be right about bigs hurting paint potential right now (at least Sengun has come out quite far this season).
This. I don't really agree with all that much DD says, but yeah, the "_____ only fan" is a bruised and beaten term around here. It seems to mean nothing more than "this person speaks more highly of _____ than I believe they should". It made total since when it originated in the Yao and TMac days, but why the hell would anyone aside from maybe a random, niche Kentucky fanboy be a Reed-only fan?
He will get the max extension, he’s already been first team all defense and has top 10-15 player potential
Dyson Daniels last year was 2nd in DPOY, 1st team All Defense, averaged 14/6/4/3/1 (very similar to Amen’s line), won the Most Improved Player award, and is actually younger than Amen. Daniels got $25M/yr on his extension. Amen is great - but unless he grows into an actually effective offensive primary this season - I am highly doubtful he gets a $50/M yr extension. (the 25% rookie max).
Amen is a WAY better defensive player than daniels, they’re not comparable at all. He also has more offensive talent.
