I can't remember an offseason of more undeserved/unearned hype that that. Arch would most likely agree.
I'm too young to remember when this rivalry mattered. I know Arkansas hates us with the strength of a thousand suns, but I have no opinion on them
The 60's-70's, "Game of the Century" era and all that They were always Hated Rival #3, after OU and A&M...we were always their sole focus of hate eta: I'm glad we're playing them regularly again, I can drum up some proper hate for those swinefornicators
My mom has been on one today about this game and she remembers that era. Maybe I'll start to feel something about this now that they're an annual game.
Yeah, I just edited the above post to add something along those lines. I wasn't alive back then, but I've seen the highlights, read the stories, all that. It was apparently a huge ****ing deal. There were a whole lot of Arky people who hated the move to the SEC because it meant no more UT. It bled over into hoops too, the Nolan Richardson vs Tom Penders games were great fun
makes you wonder what would have happened with the big 12 if Arky hadn’t already gone to the SEC by the time of the merger.
As if the stakes for next week weren't emotionally fraught enough, we can keep A&M from appearing in the SEC championship for the first time it we win.
SWC still would have merged with the Big8 I suppose (it just made too much sense) but the mix of teams would have been different for sure.
