If CP3 makes it to the end of the season relatively healthy, he should make up for Harden's shortcomings towards the end of a playoff series. I don't know how much gas will be left on that tank though. Clippers will be an interesting team to look out for. Essentially built of players doing their one last attempt at winning a championship.

Geriatric Voltrons tend to not work. There is a lot of "If's" that have to go right for that Clippers team.

Does CP3 even have much left in the tank at this point? I figure this is mostly a "sit on the bench for your farewell tour" kinda move with the team he had his best run with. If they go far in the playoffs he's just along for the ride I feel, he aint giving you a lot of anything right now. ****, bench him but keep him active in practise so he's loose for when Beard vanishes in the playoffs.

He is a Champion in my books, he mentored SGA......and helped him to get where he is now.

I mean yeah NBA is just made for taller people and he is already the best guy at 5'11-6'0.......after Iverson.

I think the Clippers will be just fine. Beal going down was ironically a blessing for them. They will use better defenders and role players in Dunn and Paul. Lopez and Collins are backing up a team that already made the playoffs last season.

I don't know why we do this every year with old teams as though we don't know they start slow and end big.

That's like the Warriors who booted out a 2nd seed in the first round in case you forgot. Don't be fooled by teams the go playoff intensity from day 1. There's inflation there. Ime has been booted out by older teams with bad starts, less talented roster and mediocre records two out of two times.

    Let's not get too cocky.

I would do it in a heartbeat but it is tough to carve a role for him on this squad, so I don’t think he will come.

Norm Powell was on that team. Norm Powell isn't on this team.

I would love this, but one of Ferngully's first actions was to publicly fling poo at Chris Paul (and Mike D'Antoni). It aint happening.

Yeah I get it but he didn't walk as an FA, he was replaced with other players. He's not a good fit with Harden and Kawhi who can both shoot but can't chase around high energy players anymore. Dunn, Paul and Jones Jr will fill the minutes at the 1/2/3.
Powell can shoot but the team needs a more well rounded player who can pass and defend more - the net difference is negligible. Defense is half of a players total output, that's why offense-only players are deemed empty-stats non-winning guys.

    Every other position was strengthened.

I just think they'll be fine. Too old players means you'll start the season clunky, that's the downside.

I don't agree with this at all, but what are your data points that old teams start bad and finish strong?

I'll stand by that without providing evidence and accept whatever you would like to think about that. I've seen it broken down before, it's too much work to do for a casual conversation. That's why, for example, I don't ask you for scientific research about how underrated Norman Powell is. It's too tedious and it's not even a Rockets thing.

OK I've literally never heard this theory before and have observationally noticed the opposite of teams that get a lot better late in the season being younger teams that start to figure things out like the Rockets two years ago so was wondering where this hypothesis came from. After 15 games last year the Clippers were 8-7 so they are off to a much worse start. I think they'll finish much better than their current 21 win pace but don't see them coming close to their 50 wins from last year. The Heat are a lot better this year so far with Powell for what it's worth.

Yeah I don't think they'll match last season since they've overhauled a lot. The Rockets two years ago are one example, but if you track the oldest Rockets teams you will find 2 title winners and 1 team that should have won the title (2017-2018) all of whom did better in the second half. It's not enough though to just look at our history. That's why I didn't bother with any anecdotal evidence, anyone can pole holes in those.
