How many times have you heard 'I wish for the old Republican Party'? The far right has taken control of the party, and that responsibility squarely falls on the voters for far-right candidates and the Republican Party leadership.

She has the kind of face to be the face of the current Republican Party.

Idk. She managed to garner a little more respect from me, but (1) I still wouldn't trust or or ever vote for her and (2) she can't win an election by winning over a liberal in a different state anyway. Despite her looking independent, strong, and semi-intelligent to me, I rather suspect the MAGA in her district won't see it that way and she will be primaried out of existence.

MTG hasn't had a change of heart, she's just being consistent. She entered Congress as a conspiracy-theory obsessed person with Internet brain rot and got a bite at the apple in the Epstein files. The files are a massive motivator for people obsessed with conspiracies and she was never going to abandon who she is. The files went from being a right-wing obsession (which they still are, otherwise she and the other three Republicans who signed the discharge petition wouldn't have done so) to a left-wing one and MTG is standing where she's always been.

You can praise her for her consistency on Epstein while acknowledging that she might still believe in some other wild-ass conspiracies and owes David Hogg a huge apology.

Nobody is siding with Trump over this. Even for MAGA choosing helping Epstein victims over Trump is a non choice

    It doesn't deserve any respect

Yeah I think she’s probably safe in her district as long as she bashes democrats enough. The main thing those Georgia rednecks want to hear more than anything is that she hates the people they hate. Then she’ll be fine.

Being consistent on Epstein and America first when Trump is being inconsistent isn’t going to hurt her.

Republicans getting primaried though is different. It guts their resources and they can’t keep up financially in the primary typically. But in her case she has the profile to raise money where normal house R’s can’t.

My guess is she originally got burned by Trump for the senate run she wanted to make and took that personal and now she is saying screw it and running in 2028 for POTUS. She’ll position herself as consistent while JD and Little Marco are full of crap and go wherever the wind blows. She also can see the writing on the wall that Trumps approval by then will be dog sh$t.

What she might be miscalculating on though is if Trump can grab more power and become the dictator he wants to be. I don’t think that’s likely but the possibility is not zero.

Its not just the Epstein files. MTG also said Israel's war with Gaza was a genocide. She has criticized Trump's foreign policy. She criticized Trump's economic policy and trade wars, and said we should extend the ACA subsidies. So it's not just the Epstein files, nor is it just a calculated criticism of Trump himself -- she's bucking some wider MAGA policy perspectives.

Not only that, but it's important to remember that the Epstein stuff became a big conspiracy that was monetized by the right wind blogs/pods/etc. and then you had crackpots like MTG latch on and use it as part of her brand. It wasn't to help victims, it was because they used it as a juicy anti-left conspiracy. This all ties deep into the right wing BS from the last decade where they hatched this conspiracy of Democrats being secret pedophiles, Pizza-gate, the Target stuff, etc. People like MTG, or even late arrivers like Rogan, never expected this to be an issue that would cause a rift with Trump. He and his family played INTO the conspiracies and this most recent campaign promised "day 1" release.

The only thing that's happened here is that Trump pivoted because he, at a minimum, will look bad because of stuff in there or someone he owes will.

Honestly, the lesson for people is to be careful who you platform. MTG is still the same nutjob, grifting dangerous whackadoodle she's just happens to have latched onto one that we all (well most of us) agree with this time. You "give her respect" and stuff and then you have an RFK Jr. down the road.

RFK has been a nut for a long time, but he was a tolerable one for democrats when he was taking up for the environment. They ignored his autism stuff because it was easy.

I watched parts of her recent interviews and I think she really has changed. The Charlie Kirk murder really shook her and she realized the part she played in the decisiveness that is plaguing our politics. She also just realized Trump is a giant douche. Those things kind of shattered her world view.

Don't forget shes a multi millionaire now after coming into congress with little money. She made her millions and secured a lifetime pension and tapped out. I dont blame her honestly

I just realized there might be some symbolism in her resignation date. A day before Jan 6, hmmm.
Edit: Apparently it’s a couple of days after her pension is vested. Probably nothing to it.
