The abysmal Raiders managed to punch it in against the Broncos. This trash can needs to go the minute the clock hits 0 after the final Colts game.
I'm counting exactly zero eggs - but I think we're starting to see the plan take shape. Assuming the Texans can take care of business in Nashville, they'll be 5-5, hopefully healthy, and not only winners of 5/7 (with the only losses being at Seattle, who may be the best team in the NFL, and Denver, in which you played 30+ minutes without CJ) but a sustained run where the rookies are really starting to contribute and, most importantly, Caley has gotten much, much better, with him being outstanding yesterday. We should not be talking about the p-word - but.... they play Buffalo, KC, LA, all in the wild card hunt + they have a victory over "in the hunt" Baltimore and they brought the Jags back to the pack, who didn't get the tiebreaker sweep and have LA this week + the Colts twice and the Broncos. And their QB is Trevor Lawrence. Caserio should still be fired. They never should have hired an inexperienced OC. But if Caley is starting to figure this out.........
They’ve adjusted to their personnel/lack of O-line cohesiveness/talent. Lots of screen reads, quick outs, TE release options (probably the 2-3 yard per possession that Stroud was mocking)… still hard to let plays develop downfield with inconsistent protection. They have been able to run the ball better (and with this line, they HAVE to… otherwise the defense just sits pass every down). Whether it’s Woody being more impactful/comfortable or the line just figuring things out better, it’s made a difference. All good offenses have to have the ability to run. Still need better starts when the defense simply doing what they worked on all week against you. Still need better red zone execution. Still need more talent on the line. Still need to hold their own against an above average defense… but it’s a start.
Giants should be 5-5 instead of 2-8. They had to fire Daboll. This offseason, that will be the #1 most coveted HC position by far.
Absolutely. The first interception was 100% on Mills and the fumbled kick-off wasn't Caley's fault nor was the punt return. They scored 10 first half points after turning the ball over on their first two possessions. And I believe it was the fifth drive - when they settled for their first FG? - when Caley schemed Higgins WIDE OPEN in the end zone & Mills instead tried to force it to Nico with about 43 guys covering him. But after the punt return - which happened near the the start of 2Q, iirc - the offense was really good: FG, TD, (end of half), downs, TD, TD, TD. Their scoring drives were 8/61, 5/65, 13/65, 6/51, 14/93. And that final drive was a masterclass in how to run the offense, late, on what is ostensibly a drive to win the game: they successfully moved it down field *and* drained the clock. Team was 11/17 on 3rd and 4th down and 4/5 in the red zone. It may all come crashing down next week - who knows? But give Nick Caley credit: he was awesome yesterday.
I am taking absolutely nothing for granted with this team... But, yes - soundly beating Tennessee would provide more fuel to the idea they might have figured it out.
Trent Brown and Patterson made a big difference in being able to run the ball. Brown will have issues in pass pro and will need help, but the trade off is that the run game will be much improved.
The Game vs the 49ers, Ravens and the 4th quarter vs the Jaguars is what this offense would like for 14 weeks out of the entire season with a semi competent pass pro and run block. It just changes everything, running for a yard when you need a few inches. That's what she said! If this dude is still around or to the next guy, they better get him a real vet center. I hate having to count on the opponents injuries to their front seven to handicap our line play. But since that's the life we've chosen, Nick mostly, good news that Buckner has been placed on IR for the Colts. Texans Oline killer forever.
Its comes to point where fans don't really care anymore. If there's no passion, then there's no interaction.
The dead horse part. It's also the predictability of already knowing the same recurring problems, when much are even the same problems carried over from last year. The part calming effect of win-is-a-win even ugly win Then the Making Excuses / Justifications to not blowing up. Its part knowing that even though it's Money Mill$, it's still the backup QB now. Then, classic looking-ahead "trap game" maybe. Even for a desperate team, can't rule out the psychological effect. NFL short week Thursday game vs a great team, its like the NBA version of 3rd game in 4 days after a back-to-back. NBA its like a "schedule loss". NFL doesnt load manage like that, but maybe they "hold back" a tad just to even stay healthy for the real brutal stretch
They're playing with a back-up QB. Honestly, the entire staff deserves a ton of credit for going 2-0 without Stroud. Ugly doesn't matter, and if the Texans can indeed get healthy and go on a run, these two games will be critical Ws.
I have been critical of Caley, but I have to give him credit over the last 3 games (no matter the opponent) he has improved. He still tends to go back to the old Caley, but he doesn't stay there and he still has a lot to learn. I hope he learned a lesson from the Bills game.. once you have a team down don't let up off the gas... The offense went conservative and stopped being progressive. T_Man
Caley looks like a rookie OC. the beginning of the year was a combination of Stroud learning a new offense, Caley learning his team and the offensive line being terrible. All 3 things have improved and if the trend continues the Texans have a true chance at winning out due to that defense.
