Wow. If they move him they would be waving the white flag. Burger, Heim, Garcia, Semien, Pederson, DeGrom, and Eovaldi would all be on the move as well (although Semien and Pederson would likely be kept to see if they could rebuild some value by the deadline, Heim and Garcia would just be nontendered).
They don't want to go over until deadline time unless there is someone special out there. They can fairly easily get over $30,000,000 under the tax level - and if they really want to, they can eat part of Walkers deal and get that number over $40,000. However, a lot of what they want to do is through trade - which means there is really more flexibility. I think once they reach a point where they are mediocre, they will switch the focus to building up the farm. Brown is arguably the best amateur talent evaluator in baseball. Remember, they almost made the playoffs with terrible injuries.
Rangers. I made a lot of money on the Nats making the WS at the all star break. The Nationals pitching was epic and they had some key hitter.... the Astros team that faced the Nats would have beaten the Rangers in 5 games.
It comes down to whether the Astros believe the Pena that they got last year is the same guy going forward. I don't, not that good.... and the market is dry. He doesn't cost a lot, and teams that need a SS that can play well, and lack financial space could end up paying a lot for him. If Brown gets the right group of guys, the Astros would be foolish to not move Pena.
I could actually see him wanting to stay where he’s comfortable. He just strikes me as that type. Of course, I’m probably wrong. He just doesn’t give me the same vibes as guys like Correa and Springer did. I knew they were leaving. I think we all got that same vibe from Bregman too, when his extension was up. I could actually see Pena staying if the Astro make a competitive offer. I know, I know… Boras
He's going to be more at Bregman's age when he's a FA... won't break the bank in terms of years and the Astros still have the best chance to extend him now. The contract parameters could also change post work stoppage. I presume anybody who signs or extends now will be grandfathered in.
Nationals were a really good team lol they had the record in baseball after some point in May or something. Strasburg and Scherzer were so dominant. Soto and Rendon was a great middle of the lineup. The Braves were way more fluky. The NLCS MVP was sorry ass Eddie Rosario followed by Jorge Soler as the WS MVP. Rangers got to play the DBacks in the WS though so I think they are wit
https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/s/h8wvyDveb8 Going to be really nice having these challenges. Edit: It usually shows a preview when I paste the link here but for those who don’t want to click… The Mariners by far have benefited the most from umpire calls the last 11 seasons. Astros are near the bottom - they have been impacted negatively.
There's a conspiracy of so many player names beginning with "B" in the top 7. League needs to look into this.
2010 Astros all over again. Trade away anyone for prospects and to bottom out for a few years. Worked the first time.
True, but top 6 in an MLB draft is much different than top 6 in NFL or NBA. Scouting is more of a factor in baseball no matter where you pick.
@Snake Diggit what’s your guess as to what it would cost to get Brendan Donovan? Seems to be some Twitter chatter about Astros dealing for him. Not great sources of anything, but chatter.
