There's a huge difference between pedophilia and inappropriate sexual misconduct from the #MeToo perspective. Al Franken was about a photograph and inappropriate behavior. What's your concern about losing Franken? I liked him, he seemed like a smart guy with (paradoxically) some integrity. But he was replaced with Tina Smith who seems... fine. And the world keeps spinning. Franken didn't really get justice because he was tarnished and pressured to resign before he had his 'day in court.' But I really don't mind. Just like how with corruption you want neither the corruption nor even the appearance of impropriety in your public officials, with sexual assault you want neither the actual assault nor the appearance of impropriety -- especially in a political party with a major plank revolving around gender equality. Maybe Franken didn't do everything he was accused of but he knew he did some of it. Politicians are disposable. Why should we be stuck with possible miscreant Al Franken when we can have a serviceable and unreproachable Tina Smith? Same for Bill Clinton, Bill Richardson, or Larry Summers. They definitely shouldn't go to jail without proof beyond a reasonable doubt. But politically I don't need them at all; throw them in the dung heap and get someone who isn't accused of raping children.
