Sengun's doing it all at the moment. He leads the team in rebounds, assists, and blocks. He's shooting 44.7% from deep. His two man game with KD is ridiculous, either man can be the ballhandler or screen setter. Sengun has been so good in the post that he creates open threes for KD on the kick out. He ran a 5-1 pick and pop with Aaron Holiday yesterday as the ballhandler. The only other center I've seen do that is Jokic. He had the block on Bane at the end of regulation as well as the shot to send it to OT. He was already an all-star last year and playing at an all-NBA level this season. He just keeps getting better.
Alpi's energy level and conditioning are so much better this year. His mid-range game has improved and I'm thrilled to see him shooting so well from three. Couple that with him literally playing Pt C/F for almost 50% of the game and he's becoming a legit MVP candidate. Keep it up young man!
Honestly, he needs to shoot a bit less, he is shooting too much this year and his % other than the 3 is down.....he should playmake a tad more and shoot a tad less, IMHO.... And, he is still amazing. DD
They need to hurry up and change the jersey design for next season tbh. I've got Sengun jerseys in all 3 of the red, white and black current ones and I feel like next season we're looking at serious MVP contention. I still think despite the recognition he's getting he still gets overlooked. As the dynamic shifts from KD to Alpi as the main superstar I think that argument changes. So I need a new jersey to buy,
As a Rocket fan from the time they moved to Houston, I know what a Top-5 center (Dream) looks like. I also know what a Top-10, er 6, center (Moses) looks like, as well as a Top-25 center (Yao). I don't know where Sengun will end up, but I like what I'm seeing and it is not hard at all to see him cracking the Top-20 assuming the personal and team trajectory holds to form and he stays away from major injuries. Regardless, this is a fun time to be a Rockets fan and a large part of that fun is seeing what Sengun is going to do every night. Best of all, the guy has a clutch gene and is not afraid of the big moment. Enjoy the ride fellas.
In Orlando game, Sengun hit his first two mid ranges then go ahead and tried a lot more without success (in first half) rather than going to the basket or playing at low post. He did the same at game vs Germany few months ago. He was tearing them inside and then he felt like settling for jump shots in 2-3 possessions which changed the momentum and Türkiye lost the game. He seems to play less physical or not trying hard at times. Then he can come back after an ugly first half and dominates everything. We have seen it in few games. Its easy for him to dominate especially when opponents have no one to match his speed/strength combo. One recent positive is how he closed the game vs Orlando like a winner. He is already a superstar level talent. Next step forward is consistency and confidence (which also effects his performance greatly) and after progress in this area, we'll see him further in MVP debates.
Does Stephen Silas have a putback instructional video that we can get Sengun and Adams to watch? 40% FG on putbacks. 2nd worst in the league for bigs. It would give him 1 more point per game if he finished them at a 60% clip. On the flip, Sengun is averaging more points in transition than Amen. Crazy. I got curious after Rockets Legend, Lou Williams said Amen should always stay at the dunker spot . "10 points from the dunker's spot and he should be able to get 8 in transition easily. Light's day of work." Also surprising, Point Guard Sengun is having the same success as Durant in the Teen Wolf actions (iso). Actually, it's higher than Durant. Was not expecting that.
That is why he is already looking like Hedo Fatglue. Or Sacha Baron Cohen. Hand 'em Turbots over......
No wonder his English is so good…his gf is fluent. And here I thought it was all because of you know what I’m sayin Jabari.
Sengun's WAY more marketable than Jokic, even if he never gets to top 10 player of all time tier like Joker probably is in truth.
This MF out here casually dominating Franz, Isaac, Mobley - dominating. He can’t possibly keep this up but he’s been hyper-effective in these 1v1 vs elite defenders. Kevin Durant is truly amazing. But is Sengun this teams MVP? Eh maybe overreaction to a great stretch.
