on Defense, I meant......yeah, his offense was bad too, and that is on him.... Sark is a poser - just not a great coach, a good one - but he is kirby Smart's wet rag. DD
Sark is hard to gauge. UT has played well against OU. Against Georgia, Kirby Smart has outcoached him every game. In the CFB playoffs, it's been mixed. The only time UT looked good was in the 1st half against Arizona State.
We changed our running backs and DB coaches. Plus our secondary was not as good as last year. Sark has to hit the portal very hard this off season or things will get worse
Penix carved up our defense in the best game of his life. I don't fault Sark for that so much. Sometimes you just lose. Sark coached around Ewers' injuries for two seasons and I think that affected how he wanted to call games. But, when push came to shove, he has been unable to scheme a touchdown against Ryan Day with eight downs on first and goal.
Boosters would've fired Day after the Michigan loss last season if they had their way. But things definitely need to change starting with Sark himself and the staff. There were some serious misevaluations and gambles taken this past offseason and that falls completely on the coaches. Question is whether Sark will course correct or double down. Few things that I would like to see: 1. Replace Flood and Akina. 2. Buy a WR1, RB1, and OL. 3. Sark to come to some type of self realization that he can't be full time OC and HC. I don't expect him to give up play calling duties but he's got to make some concessions here.
Maybe the stress of the job is making the whisky bottle look attractive. In which case life as an NFL OC would be a life mental health sobriety move.
This was always my worry with Sark. The worst part about coaching texas is you're also coaching boosters. You have pressure from every direction. That's certainly an easy option if they want to go as to why it's mutual. I still think that unless there is some systemic issue related to off the field distractions that is affecting the team, you stay with the coach that gets you consistently good seasons. Who's to say we don't go through another round of Strongs/Hermans before finding the next guy that can consistently create winning seasons.
Sark is not all bad. You are playing in the SEC. Georgia is a power house. It took Kirby Smart 6 years before winning the national title game. Ryan Day also took him 6 years. Jim Harbaugh, 9 years at Michigan Most coaches aren't going gangbusters and winning titles right away
Yeah we (and every other team) need to adjust our expectations. This year is obviously a disappointment relative to preseason expectations, but we might go 9-3 if we can beat the Aggies. If you'd told generations of Texas football fans that they'd go 9-3 with wins over Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Arkansas and go to a bowl game they'd be more than happy. The coaching staff clearly made some offseason errors that have plagued us all year. Manning has looked better compared to the beginning of the year. If we address the OL, WR, and some defensive needs in the portal than we should be excited about next year, especially if we spoil A&M's perfect season.
Yea but it wasn't a bad take from Howard. Enough to get a response from Sark and Del Conte. It's definitely in Sark's head and the pressure to succeed is immense. So far Sark has underachieved in every way.
