LOL. I was going to say that about 1/3 of those shots were tipped ball around the rim. :D

My understanding is that if the ball is tipped for securing the rebound, it doesn't count as a shot. But if it was tipped toward the basket as an attempt to get the ball in the basket, it counts as a shot even if it misses.

The official scoring rule is that a ball tipped toward the basket with the intent to score counts as a shot attempt (FGA), while a tip to secure a rebound or keep the ball alive does not count as a shot.

    lol, oops.

Missed tips have always counted as shot attempts.

Official scorer decides if it is a tip for a board or a tip for a score.

Checking the stats, those tip misses were counted among the 19 shots he missed, so the FG% is misleading. That said, he does miss way too many easy shots. For example airballing the driving floater in OT or going short on 2 straight jump hooks in OT, or the driving layup which had no touch and went way too hard off the glass. All other aspects how his game, including his defense, have gotten so much better. Sengun himself, and those of us who are fans, all want him to get to MVP level. His efficiency (and probably Wemby) is the only thing holding him back. If I was him I'd practice those running floaters and step back jumpers like crazy.

Can't believe we've regressed in to debating a tip vs shot vs rebound vs putback.

Y'all, our boy has/is ascended/ing to Superstar, 1st/2nd team All-NBA level, Top 5-7 MVP level. Kevin freaking Durant is telling the league Alpi is good enough to defer to in game-on-the-line moments.

He's doing it via grit (rebounds in overtime)
He's doing it via his playmaking and court vision/awareness (behind the back to Adams)
He's doing it via domination against 1 on 1 defense (jump hook over JJ, and 1 vs Bane)
He's doing it on Defense in the clutch (block on Bane).

THIS is it. THIS is the blue sky scenario. He's actually there.

Don't let me dissuade y'all from continuing to TED talk our way through the finer points of.....well whatever it was.

Yeah, I think I'm still not on the "he's going to be AS GOOD AS Jokic" train. That would make him not just one of the best centers in today's game, but one of the best to ever play the position of all time. Really hard to overstate how difficult it is to get to that level. Doesn't mean it's impossible, but it's one of those "I will only believe it when I see it" type of things.

In the meantime though I think he is well on track to be a top 10 player in the league, if he's not there already, with a solid chance at becoming a top 5-7 player as mentioned above. Even if that's "all" he ever is, that's good enough to win a championship depending on what's around him terms of coaching, supporting cast, etc.

Me: Orlando is the only team I don't need Alpi playmaking above the three pt line.

Udoka: "Watch this". Late 4th and OT, they were all counting on Sengun to bring it up court on most possessions.

Out of the 5 turnovers. Only 2 were in playmaking mode, the other 2 were on drives where he got Steven Seagal'd by Carter and Vagner, no whistle of course. The last T.O, was Durant getting Seagal'd causing him to slip.

When I said about 1/3 of his shots were tips, it was obviously an exaggeration as a joke. He had 8 offensive rebounds last night. Some if those were tip shot attempts. Some of those ORebs he actually grabbed them in heavy traffic and missed the put back layups because he needed to fight against two or three defenders under the basket.

    Same happened to Adams, BTW.
