I would trade him in a heartbeat if the team and MLB as a whole wasn't so short on catchers who can provide 2.0+ WAR. Fangraphs list Yainer as 1 of only 17 catchers who project to hit that mark, and most of them are not available. The way he gets his WAR is in opposition to how the Astros want the team to operate and perform, but they must have a replacement.
Stros really need him to have an all-around bounce back year. I'm not sure if I was more disappointed with him at the plate or behind it.
The pitching was really good, so I give him credit for behind the plate. Not so much for his bat. He had an off year.
The Braves lost their starting DH Fangraphs has their starting catcher also as the hitter getting the most PAs at DH and all DHs project to total 1.1 fWAR. Their backup 1B is Eli White who projects for 0.0 fWAR in 147 PAs. Sean Murphy has 3 years @$15M each remaining. That is a big commitment for a backuo catcher, and slightly under water by my figures (approx neg. $5M) Maybe a multi player trade can be made around him and Walker? Diaz could then be traded or the backup C and part time DH and traded at the deadline or next off season when/if Janek is ready.
Man, I loved him when he was with the A's, then he went to Atlanta and after 1 great year fell of the proverbial cliff.
