progressive Katie Wilson was named the winner of the city’s mayoral election on Wednesday night, beating corporate-backed Democratic Mayor Bruce Harrell

Wilson, who rents a one-bedroom apartment with her husband and young child and spoke on the campaign trail about how her parents have helped her pay for childcare, was elected after taking a 1,976-vote lead over Harrell, with just 1,320 ballots remaining.

Wilson’s victory also proved wrong the commentators who had dismissed New York Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s victory over corporate-backed former Gov. Andrew Cuomo as an aberration that would not be replicated outside of the solidly Democratic city.

Rofl... and the city is... Seattle! Home of Chaz, Antifa and a communist stronghold.

The fact that it wasn't already communist and she only won by 1,000 votes is mind boggling. "Socialists" are actually underperforming given all their hype and dominating far left cities with relentless activism and promises of freebies.

More on "Proud Socialists" ie communists

Seattle has seen some improvements over the last couple years.

That said, Redmond is the hotspot, not Seattle.

I go to Seattle regularly for work.

It has the same damn problems every metro urban area does.

Socialism won't fix it. Neither will more conservative policies. You're just trading one set of problems for another.

The root of the issue is far, far upstream of that.

Dems are likely having their Tea Party moment

people are tired of the Chuck Schumer types who do nothing and have no fight…atp, if AOC primaried him, he’d likely get blown out

the base wants an actual opposition party, all the polls and discourse are bearing that out

the days of these diet republicans, these gastric bypass republicans, these Ozempic republicans, running things are over

those 8 Dems that voted to end the shutdown…some are retiring or don’t have the terms ending until a few years from now, but when they do, they’re done…this isn’t 2017 anymore, and all that capitulation and weakness isn’t flying anymore

I went to Seattle shortly after they legalized weed. Strange experience. Had kids riding circles all day long and following you on their bikes

I really loathe the Pacific Northwest in the United States.

It is the "bad" part of the Democratic movement coupled with xenophobia, drug abuse and rampant racism.

It is too bad, because it is a very pretty area and it does have many things going for it - it just isn't for me.

While the election in NYC got all the attention, I do in someways think that this election is a bigger indicator of a canary in the coal mine.

In NYC, the people had to choose between two candidates that were disgusting humans that were corrupt - or a relative novice that ran a positive campaign and no one could really find any terrible dirt on--- and he came across as a real person. He didn't win because he is a Democratic-Socialist. He won because of his ethics contrasted against the ethics of Adams and Cuomo.

Right now, the Democratic Party is still controlled by people like Schumer and the people that Schumer and Pelosi handpicked to be in positions of power and to be candidates that got elected. The recent budget shutdown is a perfect example of how out of touch the party is. If that doesn't change soon, we are going to see more socialists and radical democrats win at the local levels.

Donald Trump is the new Leon Trotsky - his favorite color is red, and he's single-handedly driving a socialist revolution across the country through his actions and rhetoric.

How do you come up with rampant racism? PNW is one of the most diverse areas in the country. Unless you are referring to rural areas, which I would say is anywhere.

I do think you're onto something. I dont think this was a referendum on socialism or Trump. The two choices were bad. It doesn't mean he will be a far left socialist.

That said, NYC has a history of electing bad mayors. Its probably more about big money buying spineless politicians than the actual people voting.
