He was playing because Ingram, Howard were hurt and Scruggs, Tomlinson suck worse than Sow. He wasn't that bad as a PS fill in. Notice how the run game looked better than it did the last time that the Texans played the Jags. The reason for this is that Brown, Sow, Patterson replaced Howard, Ingram and Scruggs, Tomlinson. Brown while not great in pass pro was a huge upgrade in the run game. Looks like Ingram is going to be out for awhile. When Howard gets back I hope they go with an ol that looks like this Ersery, Patterson, Andrews, Howard, Brown. Smart players that will eliminate a lot of the mental mistakes that were being made. You make these changes knowing that Brown is going to struggle some in pass pro, but this ol solves the 3rd and short, GL issues.
A decent PS, backup ol that won't kill your offense when he has to come in for injured players. Not every guy is an all pro level player, but some are decent fill ins. What do you expect from a PS level player?
Do you believe it possible that we will stick with the "jumbo" package in 2026 wherein Blake Fisher remains the 6th OL on the right side of the line?
Robinson wasn’t even a “miss”, but more of a stopgap/insurance who was beaten out by Ersery, who came along faster than expected. It’s pretty amazing to be able to seamlessly swap out franchise left tackles in one offseason (if Ersery continues to improve) while simultaneously saving money and picking up valuable draft capital from Washington. True, the entire line wasn’t able to be replaced in a single offseason, but the single most important piece of it seems to have been nailed.
As much as I've run Caserio over the flames this year, it does appear, long(ish - Howard is 29)-term, that we have solutions at LT, RG, and RT. Unfortunately, he has so thoroughly botched the LG and C positions, it drags the others down. The good news: needing 2 offensive linemen - and not tackles - is significantly better than needing 4 (which is where they were last offseason), and those are pieces you can find deeper in a draft. And I'd offer that if they could land a legitimately good center, they might be OK putting band-aids on LG.
Just ask yourself this, if you bought an NFL team and were going to hire a GM, would it be Caserio? No
I wouldn't hire Caserio. This is his 5th season as GM of the Texans and he is 31-45. He has gone through three head coaches. He has wasted the rookie scale contracts of his QB, and his QB has only back slid because of poor coaching. There have been 4 OC's in 5 years. The future for the franchise is murky as well. Caserio hasn't been good.
Yeah; I'm not even sure what the defense of Caserio would be? - the two massive HC failures - and the horribly mis-managed process of hiring them (he essentially had to be tackled so he didn't hire McNown) - Ryans inherited a team in which the fifth-best player was the kicker. - Full credit for Nico & Sting (though he essentially had a no-lose choice with Sauce) - but before he had Ryans, Caserio was 3/14 in his two drafts (Nico, Sting and Pitre). - He did land CJ, though he had the decision taken out of his hands. - While I love! Will Anderson, and give Caserio credit for properly navigating the trade (drafting CJ first and taking some of the value out of the #3 pick) - he also way overpaid for WAJ with draft picks the teams desperately needed. - His free agency has been far more miss than hit - most damning: every single significant issue with this team has a deep tie to Caserio - the resources he's wasted on the OL; the misses in free agency; the OC; the passing game coordinator; the OL coach - all Caserio-related.
I don't know honestly either. This doesn't apply to all Texans fans, but I have noticed a decent amount that have very little expectations for the franchise and are very tolerant of mediocrity on the field over a long period of time. I am not sure if it is because people like the ownership and can relate to the McNair's at some base level - or if it is because it is relatively speaking a young franchise. Perhaps they relate to the Christianity connected to the team and organization and believe that they only hire wholesome folks that they can relate to. I grew up a massive Oilers fan, and then was a huge Texans fan - still am a big Texans fan, but at some point saw the organization for what it is, both good and bad. Sometimes organizations win despite questionable leadership from ownership..... but it is a hell of a lot harder.
Dont think Caserio has been amazing either but keep in mind that Jack Easterby likely had something to do with the disfunction the first year or so that Caserio was on board.
Easterby is the reason Caserio is here, which is not a good look. Caserio is likely going to keep his job for two very legitimate reasons: 1) his hits have been MASSIVE hits: Nico, Sting, CJ, WAJ, Lassiter, Hunter... that's as good a core as any team in football and that covers up a lot of the misses; 2) his '25 draft - credit where due - is shaping up to be terrific: Ersey looks like the long-term solution at LT and Marks, Noel and Higgins have all flashed massive potential. And they're all offensive players, so to the extent you can point to Ryans' influence over Caserio's better decisions since '23 - this feels like a Caserio draft.
IMO Casserio is simply a middle of the pack GM who sucks at evaluating OL, he has made some good picks but the CJ pick up was really about getting who the Colts didn't. If I am starting a team I want someone like Howie Roseman and I dont care how much we pay him, he is worth his weight in gold
Haha. I’d argue the bad far outweighs the good. By, like, a lot. But I think the ‘25 draft class - which, again, looks really promising: I think that’s going to save his job.
How about spendig the money to sign Linderbaum and drafting Ioane in the 1st? That's a top tier OL. Gotta find a TE that is an excellent blocker though.
If he had final say in some of these decisions I would agree with you. With this said if I was an owner who was hiring a GM my hire would be Ed Dodds.
He did draft Nico. You just made a case that Caserio doesn't make the final calls on personnel decisions, Stingley was a Lovie pick. He went to Stingley's pro day and is friends with Stingley's dad, Green was a Warhop pick. The OL draft picks are going to get better since Caserio knows exactly what type OL Caley Popovich want. See: the Ersery pick.
