You know what they'd call a "tiny 6'1 PG" 10 years ago? A 6'3 PG

Switching to the without shoes measurement really confused a lot of people.

My post isn't comparing Ryno to Reed. The person I responded to said we haven't had a high volume 40-45% 3pt shooter on the team since Luther Head, nearly 20 years ago. I think he just forgot about Ryno.

Well sure, now that he's scaled back on it a bit.

You said it on a public board.

McConnell is a not a good example of Sheppard's "limit".

Dominant offensive player? He has a career average of like 7 points a game, his career high is 10.2 points a game......... Reed Sheppard right now is averaging more than TJ has in 10 years in the NBA.

McConnell doesn't shoot many 3's, and when he does - he doesn't shoot them especially well.

The idea that Sheppard's absolute limit is McConnell is absurd.

No, I figured you made a mistake - but your comparison of ceilings was and still is pretty ridiculous.

He is a good player, but he isn't elite offensively. If he were elite offensively, he would play more than 20 minutes a night. He is a very good passer -- but none of that really means much, because the issue is that you are claiming that is the ceiling.

You are special Sam - I am cool with you.

Well I would say that is your ceiling Sam.

He just needs to hit shots - the other stuff will come, as it is.

I am not claiming it will all be smooth sailing, he will have bumps, but he is on the right path right now.

LOL. Almost forgot about Head's stellar season. 44% on 5 attempts per game. He got some 6MOY votes too. He totally disappeared in the playoffs. SMH.

He was a corner 3 merchant before we knew corner 3s were cool (and easier)

    Yes and no.

I looked at the BBRef list of highest 3PT % seasons in Rockets history and it only showed the top 10, with the last spot belonging to Walt Williams (.426 in 2001-2002). Which is why I was originally going to say "high volume 42-45% 3pt shooter" but then felt like that was maybe a bit ambitious and changed it to 40-45%. At that point, yes, I forgot to go back and look for Rockets players below 42%, which would have included Ryno.

That said, I'm personally disqualifying him due to his historically ridiculous home/road splits (-13% at home). It made him feel a lot less reliable than a typical 40% shooter.

Ryan Anderson is actually not a bad comp for Reed Sheppard if we are just talking about the regular season. Ryno's issues were mostly that he became unplayable in the playoffs. But regular season Ryno was quite awesome, and would definitely represent 90% ceiling for Sheppard at this point.

This is what we want to happen. Reed's FGAs will decrease (at least initially) but he'll open things up for everyone else.

It will be interesting to see how things settle after ~20 games.

Makes sense! No worries, I wish I could forget about Ryno.

Literally the only things they have in common are that they both can shoot and are white. This board reminds me of the popular Australian football boards where we compare 6ft black players to 7ft black players and try to say it’s because they both have great instincts.

If Reed was simply a shooting talent he wouldve been drafted later. He had amazing defensive skills as well as playmaking. He was the most complete player in the draft overall. Everyone else lacked polish and got drafted based on measurables by teams hoping they will eventually get there.

If Risacher for example had his playmaking he wouldve been considered a generational prospect.

Yep, we are in 2025 and still trying in white and black patterns, White Chocolate played more Afro American than most Afro American players lelz.

Durant as he is hugging Reed: "You know, I was so wrong about 6'0 guards. How tall are you younging ?"
" I appreciate that, Mr. Durant. Can you teach me how to troll, Mr. Durant?"
    (not the actual interaction)

Not only that. Was slight of frame and tended to drift sideways on his Js. Poor core strength.
