A publicly announced pre-firing appointment? They are trying to embarrass him. Owner is going to pretend like he didn't sign off on it, like he didn't dog Luka in the media after the trade.
Forgive me if I'm slow on the uptake or out of the loop, but does this have anything to do with trading one of the best players (albeit at the time someone who couldn't stay away from buffets or kegs) in the NBA for the detritus of Anthony Davis? Because I had pegged that trade on collusion with the league to uplift all things Lakers ("and we'll gift you with the #1 pick!").
It staggers me that somebody this incompetent at their job made it to the position he did. Newbie owner that clearly knows absolutely nothing about basketball signed off on it. I would frankly kind of respect the owner if he came out and admitted that instead of acting like he had no part.
Reminds me of Caserio's actually making the offensive line worse, then just waiving off any concerns. Fans and the media have too much information nowadays to accept that kind of bullsh!t.
I feel bad for Mavs fans honestly, you would think they would ride or die and we’re all on board with the trade. Instead, they now made it totally on Nico’s shoulders, so they could’ve simply not agreed to the trade since this was always going to be bad.
Trading Luka wasn't even the dumb(est) part. If they really felt they had to move on from him, they should have done it publically and started a bidding war, either in the offseason or approaching the deadline. Trading one of the most valuable assets in the middle of the season in complete secrecy is beyond stupid. And the owner absolutely deserves huge blame - you don't have to know anything about basketball to ask "how are we sure we're getting the best price?"
Disappointing that Nico is leaving the Mavericks. He was one of the most incompetent GMs in league history.
Keeping it under wraps makes sense if you look at it through Harrison's idiotic logic. They wanted a player to complete his roster vision to supposedly compete for a championship now, not necessarily get the "best return." Again, very stupid but they supposedly casually floated this to Milwaukee for Giannis and I think Minn for Edwards and got shut down. If AD was the third best possible player he thought he could realistically get for Luka and complete his vision it sort of makes sense to keep it under wraps because if it gets out then Luka might try to tank the trade or say he'll only re-sign with Miami or some other team and Nico probably knew people like Cuban, Dirk, and really all of Dallas might convince Dumont not to do this.
good thing is he’s so dumb it’s only a matter of time before he slips up and inadvertently reveals silver’s hand in that trade
