This team is just starting to come together, and will likely need some personnel tweaking. That said, last night was a big step and a glimpse of the future. We are going to be scary.
Lol NBA top 10 plays of the night didn't even put Sengun in the top 10. Must be a Greek. They're getting absolutely slaughtered in the comments.
The last six minutes showed that we could actually finish a game. The highlights: zero turnovers, but forced 3 Durant and Sengun led the offense (15 points perfect from the field with 5 makes) three key assists from Durant down the stretch only 3 PFs committed by Houston, but drew 6 (and went 8–9 from the charity stripe) outscored the Bucks 23–11 in the last 6 minutes but we weren't relying on heroic 3-ball shooting (only 1 of 4 from 3-point land, Bucks: 1 of 3) Giannis didn't keep up: 4 missed FTs, 2 TOs, only 6 points
It helped that the refs finally decided to call it fairly to keep the game close during a stretch there.
Reed could be the next Klay Thompson, ex Warriors GM Bob Myer said he haven’t seen shooting touch like Reed ever since Curry and Klay. So far we were fixated on Reed becoming point guard like Curry but it’s becoming clear that Reed is closer to Klay. Benefit of Klay is he don’t need play set up, space the floor and insane microwave scorer that can put up points in a hurry. So far when Reed gets going he get burst of scoring swing with in couple of minutes which is rare trait Klay had in his prime.
If Reed improves on his ball handling, he definitely can be a very good PG. I don't know why people still keep saying he's a SG. He has court vision and playmaking ability displayed clearly when he has the chances. Klay Thompson never exceeded 3 apg in his career. Reed already averaged 3.2 apg in only 21 mpg this season.
Just to expand on your point...this is from both of their first two years...Obviously, Reed second year not complete, Klay was a year older and Reed played a lot less and inconsistently.... I think by the end of this year, if it's not already, comparing Reed to Klay as playmakers will be a pretty wild comparison.
Eye test, I'm not really seeing pass-first tendencies or extremely high-level court vision from Reed; he seems more focused on getting to his spots. I think that's why people have SG vibes from him. But he is better at passing than the average SG, though, sure. I'm thinking his role in the best case is somewhere in the vicinity of FVV, Jamal Murray, and sure, a poor man's Steph Curry (which is basically how those other two guys play too). That is to say, playing ""point guard"", but not in the traditional CP3, Steve Nash, John Stockton way, but more of a hybridized combo guard version who is more focused on jump shooting.
I pretty much agree with the second paragraph, but how many recent champions had pure, high assist PG's. Pretty much all champions have been game manager PG's with their half court offense actually being run through non PG's, score first PG's, or kind of by committee.
Klay Thompson is 6'6" and could defend the wing. He can be a PG like Curry in that he's not the facilitator or playmaker, it's the position that he defends.
On eye test, I guessed he's probably making more passes per FGAs than everyone in the rotation. On stats, Adams passes more per shot as he just doesn't take many shots, and Amen slightly passes more per shot than Reed. He will take some risks, but for the most part, he's trying to play safe with the ball. The biggest thing for me is that he's not really forcing the action all the time, but still getting a decent amount of assists while not making high risk passes. I think he needs to improve his ball-handling for his PG skills/passing to pop (e.g., picks up the ball too much). That takes time for most PGs to develop in the NBA. Maybe Reed never does. I don't see Reed ever being a ball-dominant PG, but I expect him to handle the ball more than most non-star SGs.
All struggles turn all into who they are supposed to be. Whether they perceive it or not, is their own final challenge...
