I don't agree that we tend to swing really hard one way or the other. Also im kind of surprised that the hall of fame did not hold a special announcement after the game to announce Reed made it into the hall of fame.

While I don't see Reed as ever being a pure CP3/Nash type PG. I think the JJ Redick comps are excessively pessimistic on his playmaking abilities.

Redick in his senior year as Duke averaged 2.5 assists per 36, Reed as a freshman averaged 5.6. He already has a better assist rate as a 21 year old than Redick had in even his best season. When you compare him to pretty much all of the recent NBA champion PG's, his assist numbers compare very favorably to them at a similar age in college and the NBA. Most title contenders use a non PG as their primary half court playmaker now or by committee.

He clearly has good NBA floor vision, and I think learning how to take care of the ball and get a team into proper sets is a skill he's more than capable of developing. I'm not sure if he will develop it this season, which could mean the team needs to invest in a stop gap (FVV was supposed to be that guy, bad luck), but I absolutely think he will before his rookie deal is up

So what if you combine Mark Price and John Stockton into one on NBA 2K...?

Post Durant, a Sheppard / Amen / Eason / Smith / Sengun lineup is just so intriguing, with each of these guys in their early to mid 20s.

How old was Nash the first time he did it?

    How old is Reed?

I can't really think of a perfect comparison. He's kind of a FVV, but with the potential to be a little better at everything. He could be a steady game management point guard, but with exceptional shooting. He doesn't have the 1-1 skills of Nash, or especially CP, but he does have the potential to have the mid-range game of CP and the three point shooting of Nash. Maybe Stockton <vomits> is the best comparison. He has a long way to go to reach that level of handle and playmaking though.

My goal for Reed this year, come off the bench as the 6th man and earn the starting job by the playoffs...

If he progresses enough to earn the starting job, our ceiling has another level in the playoffs.

What gives me a lot of optimism is that someone with very quick hands and reflexes (which we all agree he has) should be able to develop great handles. He’ll never be quick enough to blow by people, but if he can get to the point where we can dribble in traffic methodically, he can be extremely effective (think late-career CP3, who just slowly maneuvered around until he found the matchup he liked or someone sagged enough to give him a middle)

This is all true...I think we should have our answer by the deadline if we need the stop gap. I was sure we needed one a week ago, lets hope he keeps this up. It sure looks good.

Reed is excelling as a 6th man. Our current starting unit consistently wins their matchup. Who runs the bench unit if Reed starts? Being a spark plug off the bench or an injury replacement is the best use of Sheppard this year. He had a great game and if he plays like this consistently we will not have to trade for a backup guard. Everybody calling me a hater has not been paying attention to what I have said about Reed. Just cause I don’t slobber all over the guy doesn’t make me a hater, just like being fair about Jalen’s plus and minuses didn’t make me a JOF. If Reed could get 5 steals a game like this it would make up for his other defensive shortcomings, but that is highly unlikely. He has a long way to go to be a starting PG and that is a reasonable assessment. Getting to be the 6th man on a championship level team is a huge compliment not hate.
