The board tends to swing really hard one way or the other on Reed. It’s okay, good to have passionate fans. As I said at the end of last season and start of this season- a lot of the issue with Sheppard was that he wasn’t shooting well enough or consistently enough and as a result he was focusing on that and didn’t have the confidence to expand the rest of his game. So far Sheppard has had an excellent second season. He is shooting well, he is a little more consistent as well and the rest of his game is starting to open up. It’s very early - he could back slide, but you can see the improvements in his body, his improved understanding of the defense. I expect him to keep getting stronger and that to help him on defense. I personally wouldn’t start him. He has a good thing going, let him continue this role for now. Do what they did with him at Kentucky and if he responds well, then maybe he starts next year - but for now he just needs to keep pushing in the role he has.
Its not just this board. Everyone swings really hard on everything nowadays. Social media brainrot syndrome.
And Reed did it in under 30 minutes. Jalen Green has never played off the bench in the NBA, so Green plays much more minutes than Reed. So a 40 minute game, Reed would have more But I think VanVleet or another PG/combo guard is a more direct comparison. VanVleet has put up some sneaky high st-ocks games. Reed playing comparable to VanVleet is a good compliment
Nah, you don't like Sheppard and you hold him to an impossible standard... nothing is ever good enough... there's always some small criticism or area that he needs to improve upon... and there will always be something that you will point to. He's not held to the same standard as other players. I think you just don't like him. Easy to spot! He's BALLING OUT and looking amazing. Don't nitpick on little stuff when he's doing awesome overall. This guy is a huge part of our NOW and our future. GOOD DAY
He had to change teams and became a starter in the lockout year. Interestingly, he went back to his original team.
It took Nash 3 years to become a full-time starter. He got traded but went back to Phoenix through free agency. Nash had better basketball smarts than what Reed has and was quicker in thinking. Still time for Reed, though, but he is nothing like Nash.
Because he had Jason Kidd and Kevin Johnson in front of him as a rookie. He showed flashes at times when he got decent minutes. It was different back then. I don't use age as an excuse if a player wants to leave early from college and try and play in the NBA. Steve Nash was a late bloomer who played soccer. He didn't start to play basketball until around 13. He played 4 years in college.
Good evaluation, Nash a one lifetime innovator met MDA a crazy innovator and they hashed out a system in Phoenix..... which won him 2 time awards. Kyle Korver and Redick are greeting Reed Sheppard. I mean it is better than the Green and Kobe comparisons but not by much.
People forget even John Stockton came off the bench his first 3 years. Importantly, both Nash and Stockton played all 4 years in college as the man. And even with that experience & maturity coming in the league, it took them years to settle in. Reed played 1 college year, off projections playing as a reserve Playstyle differences factor in big too. Nash came up more a pass-first pure pure guard, with shooting & scoring to complement the passing. Nash won MVP scoring 16PPG. Today's guards its more the other way around, scoring ability with passing to compliment. Where it's fine to bomb away from 3 at the expense of other shots. Meaning the "Cocaine Curry" is a more apt comparison. (Even Curry & Dame Lillard played multiple college years). A volume 3 shooting Mark Price is a strong player now.
We need scoring off the bench any ways so that 6th man role, if he can fill it, suits him well. Suits the team well too, like Durant said, they needed that spark and he's been coming in and doing that. I do want to see him play as point more though just to see how he can handle it but I've always loved his potential and if he's shooting like this it will be hard to sit him.
