Just to pile onto the (deliberate, well done) awfulness of this analogy: If Sheppard is gonna play the Stockton role, he really needs to up his flopping game. He's way too respectful of screens. With a little more effort and theatrics, he could easily get us at least 2 illegal screen calls per game
True, but he wasn't in the NBA at all when he was Reed's age and he wasn't a starter until he was 24.
Sheppard is gaining his confidence, but also his teammates' confidence. He should keep building on these last two games. Frankly, I think our best 5 is Sengun, KD, Amen, Josh O and Sheppard. Amen is not a PG, he does fine as a secondary ball handler. I don't love KD bringing the ball up either, we need to conserve his energy. Reed's success these last two games started by allowing himself some time on the floor to get into the flow of the game before taking shots. Then he looked for a mid-range shot or 2 to get his rhythm. After that he had his confidence and we see the results. Sengun needs to look for him more, he's had him wide open multiple times and didn't get it to him. He'll get those triple doubles if he does. Reed's steal from Anthony and pass from his ass to Tari for a dunk was the play of the game. Great hustle, vision and execution.
I loved the loose ball on the floor and passed it ahead of the play for the easy flush. Most players would have passed it to the closest player.
John Stockton was an a-hole though. Reed isn't a dirty player. Would be pretty wild to see nice guy Reed busting up fools with sneaky elbows and grabs. He should squab at least once though, have the whole team holding him back all funny like.
It took quite a few years for Steve Nash to become the MVP X 2. If memory serves, he was traded from Phoenix to Dallas when he was very young. Then traded again. That kind of thing doesn't happen if he was great at the onset. Patience with our Cocaine Curry is needed.
Rockets ran a play for Reed today. Had Durant run a PNR and Adams pretend screen for KD which ended up being a flare for Sheppard. Wide open 3. Was nice and something I hope they start using as a counter to teams trying to overhelp on the ball handler.
He is moving his feet more on defense and picking and choosing when to go for steals instead of just playing defense with his hands.
Man I rewatched the highlights. Imagine if you are Reed, you get the steal and hit the three. Then KD, one of the greatest of all time, is the first one off the bench to hype you up. Must be an amazing feeling.
He's opening his game with the middy. The 3 opens up the 2 and the 2 helps getting 3s. He took my Bobby Jackson advice.
Reed is currently better than Steve Nash was until he was 26... now that's not saying Reed Sheppard will make the massive leap to being where Nash ended up, that probably won't happen, but we should be very happy about his progress.
Someone should go check Castles per 100 pos turnover number and assist to tov ratio. Truly generational stuff.
Looking at the leaders in 3pt %. Reed is about 11th in the nba and there is only 1 player above him that shoots more volume. Also of course he is the youngest player shooting that well.
