They only have 5 meaningful contracts (Seager, deGrom, Eovaldi, Semien, and Pederson), so I wonder which of those guys they’re gonna try to dump. Semien seems disgruntled. Seager has the biggest contract. Eovaldi and deGrom could get hurt at any moment.

I don’t know why MLB would push for a cap. The league benefits when large market teams win, and that is a direct result of not having a salary cap.
Who is MLB? Is it Manfred speaking on behalf of the owners? The owners of mid and small market teams (as well as the fans of those teams) would love to play on a level financial field the way other American professional sports teams do. There needs to a salary cap and a salary minimum. So, sorry superstar players, you can still get your huge contract but maybe it'll need to be with the Pirates and not the Dodgers.
Long term if LA continues to dominate, fans in small and mid-markets will lose interest. If LA signs Tucker and the Japanese dude, how is anyone going to beat them? They already have an insane head start on everybody in the league. I know baseball is more unpredictable than the other sports, but at some point the talent misbalance is going to take all competition away and baseball becomes roller-derby.
Why a minimum? MLB is the owners. What do they gain by instituting a minimum salary? That sounds like something a players association might have an interest in.
To who? I may be alone in this but I have never been disturbed about how much the players I am watching are or are not being paid. My enjoyment of the game is in no way affected by this. It has nothing to do with the game. If I am having a good time and the players I am watching are having a good time, that is enough.
They’ve become full blown “for profit” glorified minor league teams…. (While paying taxpayer money to build major league stadiums at major league prices)… they’re generating revenue (plus getting revenue sharing cuts) and NOT putting it back into the team. And I don’t think all the players are having a good time. Paul Skenes is in the literal prime of his life right now… and won’t sniff a post-season pitching appearance till….??? (Meanwhile, he’d be making triple and be worth quadruple if he played any other professional sport with proper salary balance/structure). That leads to the landscape of a tiered/relegation system. The EPL also sees the same financial crunch/market issues… but those teams could possibly ascend faster, be included in more of the profitable media deals, and generate increases in franchise value, if they just spent a little more.
You're seriously ******** me like this is a real question? Simple solution: you give the MLBPA a higher minimum in exchange for a Cap. Beef up the retirement benefits. Only problem is the MLBPA doesn't give a **** about anyone or anything but the top earning current MLBPA members.
