Considering Halligan’s past experience as Trump’s attorney, frequently dealing with the media, Bower thought it was “baffling” that she would reach out over text and share so much information without first requesting to be on background, off the record, or some other restriction.

“She knew I was a journalist,” wrote Bower. “She approached me. She invited my questions. She even encouraged me to stop chasing other reporters’ stories and focus on my own.”

I think this will be the first of many weak cases that won’t result in a federal conviction. As @Astrodome implied, the federal conviction rate is high, which is absolutely true. GAO to investigate if Pulte mishandled mortgage fraud referrals


The Government Accountability Office will investigate whether Federal Housing Director Bill Pulte misused his authority to spur mortgage fraud investigations into president Donald Trump’s political enemies.

The GAO sent Senate Banking ranking member Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) a letter, released publicly Thursday, accepting Senate Democrats’ request to investigate Pulte’s referrals of

3. Federal Reserve Gov. Lisa Cook and
4. Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) to the Department of Justice

for alleged mortgage fraud.

The cases spurred by Pulte’s allegations have faced recent setbacks. The cases against Comey and James were dismissed last month when a federal judge ruled that the case’s prosecutor, Lindsey Halligan, was illegally appointed to the position.
