Why are you looking at Okogie's career stats when Okogie was just a career journeyman prior to this year? He has a career 30% 3 pt how is that relevant to how he has been playing this year? All you have been doing is make disengenous arguments lol are you alright in the head? Ok fine you want career nos: Sheppard career TS: 48.3% https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/sheppre01.html Sounds like you are done here.
Oh Castle benefits from Wemby. He still has to score past defenders as he is the 2nd option. Here is video of Castle needing to score past defenders despite playing with Wemby: You are the clown here you think 4rth option Reed Sheppard has a harder road to score than Castle. Being starting PG and 2nd option is harder compared to coming off the bench and just shooting open shots. Just ask Payton Pritchard.
I'm looking at the largest data set possible, not 7 games. I never said Reed should start and be a primary focus of the opposing team's defense. You are done now aren't you?
You're comparing Castle to a bench player. That should be a sign for any normal rational person. I'm starting to think you're Castle’s mom.
Nah sorry that last bit doesn't fly I'm afraid. Why should I have to give Reed more leeway than anybody's given any of the other draft picks? There's nothing remotely special enough about him to justify that. People more special were crucified way worse at this same point of their careers (and not just Jalen tbh.)
So none then? Because a huge portion of that hatred started before the other players touched the court. Ok deal, sounds fair enough. I'll carry on as I was.
Yes, people do that. People do a lot of irrational things. Doesn't mean it's right. I give all of our young players 3 seasons to grow before I give up on them. The only exception is Cam. I don't like bad attitude players because they don't improve no matter what tools they have. Sengun looked like an undersized unathletic center who could pass but couldn't shoot. I didn't give up on him. Jabari shot like crap in his rookie season. I kept my faith on him. I knew shooters don't forget how to shoot. Young players just need time to adjust. Amen when he just started didn't look like he knew how to play organized ball. I didn't give up on him. I knew Reed could be a very good 3pt shooter even though he shot terribly in his first season. I am quite sure he will improve on his middies. He's missing them not because he's a bad shooter but because he hesitates inside the 3pt arc. That will very likely be fixed with more experience. You think there's nothing remotely special about him. His outside shooting is special. He has also shown many times his court vision is very good. His quick hands is special, just needs to learn when to use it. I think you are just focusing on the negatives and dismissing the positives. People, including me, kept hope on Jalen Green. He showed flashes enough to think he might become a very good player. Reed has shown flashes too. Maybe you just don't remember.
Difference is that Reed actually has the physical and mental capacity to get to and surpass Nash (not saying he will, but he can). Can't say the same for Castle. Hes just a guy.
The time of the Nashes are gone, today every big and every wing should have some playmaking abilities when back then one PG should shoulder it all. Nash had his sweat and hair flying all over the balls and the court, and masterfully did not slip on the court. Thus the Time of Positionless Bball has been ushered in.
You keep saying that. But Nash wasn't just a great play maker. He's one of the greatest shooters of all time. I am pretty sure if Nash played today, he'd still be a very good PG. His defense might be a problem though. But teams learn to hide great offensive players on defense. People are still overrating the physical and underrating the mental.
You said give him the same amount of games before criticising him, so I agreed and said I would do so.
The court vision is why I hang on to him as worth developing, as far as we can. We don't have anybody else with that kind of court vision. Sengun has it, but nobody else on the perimeter. A guy who can kill you with the shot or the assist, especially the assist nobody else sees, is a powerful weapon.
Good point. As long as Sheppard improves, I won't be worried. Like you said, lots of folks didn't give up on Green even when he wasn't improving in many areas. Comparing progress by year: AST/TO Green - 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.4 Sheppard - 2.0, 2.3 FG% Green - 42.6, 41.7, 42.3, 42.3 Sheppard - 35.1, 41.7 3 PT Green - 34.3, 33.8, 33.2, 35.4 Sheppard - 33.8, 42.9 SC-EFF Green - 1.213, 1.238, 1.208, 1.199 Sheppard - 0.958, 1.150 SH-EFF Green - 0.51, 0.49, 0.50, 0.50 Sheppard - 0.45, 0.54 Again, as long as Sheppard is improving, give the kid a break.
"Just because I'm critical of Reed doesn't make me less of a Rockets fan. I'Ll RoOt FoR hIm AnD hOpE hE dOeS wElL". Bros wanted to give Jalen a 5th year but won't give Reed even one season. Wonder why that is.........
Sure, name another Nash in the last 10-15 years.....if his game is so modern and players emulating that. Sheppard has a much realistic opportunity to become a JJ Redick with some passing than Nash. For one, JJ Redick was a heck of a smart player who knew his limitations and knew how to get open, move off ball and shoot the heck out of a ball. Or Kyle Korver who made an AS appearance from just shooting the ball. Not to say that the Rockets are never going to run the 7 Seconds Offense of MDA that made Nash or even a Guard centric Offense for that matter, you can just forget about that, when Alpe and Amen are your future stars, Reed is doomed to be just a connective passer and running the 2nd units........ At that point Nash is an afterthought and has only 2 things in common, being a PG and Caucasian.....
