Yeah, we pull Reed out every time before we lose our lead. Reed is played at spot minutes to give our starters rest. Switch both players and Reed wouldn't be starting for the Spurs. Heck, Dylan Harper would be starting! Castle would be starting for the Rockets and Okogie would be given those spot minutes
Until Wemby got hurt, the Spurs were challenging for a play-in spot. Reed got dethroned last year by Holiday and sent to G-league...if Castle was that bad he probably would've got sent to the G-league as well...so your argument lacks weight
Highest vertical that he's never displayed once in a single game. He's supposed to jump like Ja, you realise that, right? That vertical measurement is flat out bullshit.
First off, I'm a Rockets fan... Secondly, I'm a basketball realist and just speaking from observation. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, right? Hence, why we have this friendly forum to chat basketball. Actually, I like Reed, but I just dont think where he's at from a development standpoint will contribute to us winning a championship this year. We gotta strike the iron while its hot and he's our best tradeable asset to upgrade our backup pg spot. My argument is we wouldn't be having this conversation if we would've drafted Castle at #3
so you will gladly offer the Spurs Reed for Castle straight up and you are pretty sure Spurs will decline it right?
Castle would not be getting any playing time on this team. Ime would not tolerate the turnovers. I think your point about him not being where he needs to be is completely dumb. No one is saying he's a finished product. If they play him enough though by the end of the year he could be that kind of player. You know the future so I should defer to you; but part of me things you don't really know he's not going to get better... call me skeptical...
Ime is never going to play a 10 turnovers in one game player. Reed wouldn't start on either team yet. Castle shouldn't either. Spurs have injuries and need minutes. Give me an example of Reed getting pulled after losing a lead over 10 points. Not pulled for rest, pulled for performance.
That's bad enough, but then they actually regressed in year 3, down to 36% from the field and 37% from three. That's when it really became clear that they were garbage and had no future in the league.
Dallas Mavs game - Reed was hunted on defense and was terrible offensively...didnt play much that game Detroit Pistons - played terrible, when Reed got in the game late 3rd he was the reason we lost our lead/momentum. Reed is playing better, but he's not better than Castle
They play different positions. For both the Rockets AND the Spurs, Reed is the superior player. Castle just gets a long leash to up his trade value I mean so he can develop.
Castle as a defender will most definitely make him a starter! Thats why Reed isn't starting because he's a liability on defense...we can both agree Reed is a better 3pt shooter than Okogie, correct? If Reed wasn't a defensive liability, 100% he'll be starting over Okogie! Okogie's role is to play defense and make his open shots...he's doing it at a higher clip than Reed. I think Reed is improving and will get better. However, he's a defensive liability and when playoffs come every possession counts. If our opponent is torching our weakest link, that player becomes unplayable during the playoffs. Do you honestly think Reed can play 20-25 minutes in the playoffs against a superior offense such as OKC, Lakers, GS???
Castle is not that guy either. He wouldn’t be starting and he doesn’t offer anything we need off the bench. You’re massively overrating Castle
They both play as combo guards...lol, Reed is averaging 9.9ppg on 41.7% and Castle is averaging 19ppg on 51.8% while guarding the opponent's best perimeter player! Reed couldn't guard Cam Spencer, Jamal Shead, Duncan Robinson, Jimmy the Cricket lol!!!
I'm not a Spurs fan, but is everyone hating on Castle because he plays for the Spurs? I like an underdog story as well, but its a reason why Rudy didn't start for Notre Dame!
No, no one is hating on Castle. Not nearly as much as you and Ros are hating on Reed. Metrics say they’re similar level players defensively and Reed better offensively.
Resorting to citing single game %'s in order to crap on a guy is an interesting angle. If you used averages, you might have to admit his eFG% is currently better than Amen, Alpi, and KD.
Thats why I say stats are skewed. Like I said in another post, I actually like Reed! However, he's our weakest link in our roster and if we had an opportunity to improve, I would trade him to get a better guard if it doesn't require to break up our current rotational players
Reed compares even more favorably if you include last season, but mainly because reed didn't play much and not playing is better then playing and being horrid.
