Reed is not doing great. If he were great he wouldn't be the sore thumb of the depth chart. Let's be real, Aaron Holiday would have taken his spot a long time ago if Stonetitta weren't determined to validate their call. His shooting *as actually deployed* on the court doesn't seem to provide any real net team benefit so far that is worth the cost. Give me castle who is not going to be bullied on defense over Reed at this point
I don't see how Aaron Holiday is substantially better to the point of stunting Reed's development.... I have no issues with playing Reed 20-25 minutes a night in the middle of the game on a regular basis. Obviously if he comes in and is terrible he should hit the bench. That applies to Tari and all the other bench guys. If it's not your night, you get less time. Reed is not expected to play in a close and late game unless we're down bodies or need his shooting. Once he proves himself in that playing time, then you trust him more close and late.
Castle is a certified scrub, the Spurs already tried trading him last season and i suspect they'll try to do so again.
Basically he's Okogie without wasting a lottery pick... So sure while he is on a heater. He's not on the court for Ime though with those turnovers.
1997, this sophomore sucks: Points: 9.1 per game Assists: 3.4 per game Rebounds: 2.1 per game 21 minutes per game. plays efense, no D
I’m not a believer that Reed is going to be a good starting guard in the league, but acting like he isn’t improving is disingenuous. If he continues to shoot well, he will have a successful NBA career as a sharp shooter off the bench. The Rockets may trade him at the deadline, because we have to have a competent backup guard on both sides of the court to win it all this year. The Durant signing moved our timeline up. Maybe, they move other assets for that backup guard, but Reed’s 10m is a good trade piece.
I think this is pretty much what it is about and I agree with this. We can win with Reed having his 20mpg and its much more valuable to the team than playing Aaron Holiday 20mpg because Reed has more potential than Holiday. I do think though that if a really good vet guard trade comes up, like if we can get Elder Holiday here in a threeway deal and it takes Reed...I think we do it in a hearbeat because we want to win this year. So he could be trade bait too. If we had Jalen instead of Durant then Reed would probably be off the table for most players since our window would not be this year with Jalen but if suddenly teams are dangling starting level PGs and they want Reed back in a package I think that gets done this year... But, it's still true that it probably isn't worth giving Holiday those minutes over Reed. We have to see what we have in Reed before we go just throwing it away.
This would be awful, especially in that we’ve now got three (Josh included) other players who do what Castle does BETTER.
Spurs fans already growing tired of Castle’s lack of shooting and turnover deficiencies. Every player is always going to have their faults. I’m good with Reed.
The argument shouldn’t be Reed vs Castle. It should be Reed vs other backup guards that might be available. Castle sucks unless he learns to shoot. That is not impossible as we’ve seen from Okogie and Reed’s progression in that aspect, but for this year I doubt either are the answer as our primary back-up guard.
You're delusional...Castle doesn't get hunted on defense and his perimeter game is improving. Mark my words: Castle will have a better/more accomplished NBA career than Reed
He gets hunted on offense worse than the false narrative about Reed being hunted on defense. Castle can't shoot and he's a turnover waiting to happen. He's sort of like a reckless ball dominant version of what Okogie was in his career.... and that's a league minimum player.
Reed cant even stay in the game if he's not hitting his shot. He can't play man defense and if our 2-3 zone wasn't effective he'll get our interior defenders in foul trouble because Reed cant stay in front of his guy. Hence, why he got benched during the Mavs game and Aaron Holiday came in. God forbid if Amen was to get hurt and there will be times KD will sit out games. Do you really trust Reed to run the offense for 48 minutes? Castle is averaging 19/6/6...Okogie has never and will never average those type of stats...it took Okogie 8 years to find a jumpshot and the verdict is still early if he can be a reliable 3 point shooter.
That number will balance out...If Reed utilization was as high as Castle those turnovers would be comparable. However, Reed will have to continue to shoot at a high clip to justify him staying in the game because he's useless in defense. Everyone's eyes lights up when they get him on a switch. Unfortunately, he's probably our weakest link on our team. If Reed's not hitting his 3s, what else can he positively contributes to our team?
We shall see tomorrow night. Hopefully, I'm wrong and you're right...the Spurs have physical guards so we'll see how Reed fares tomorrow evening against the Spurs
