Reed is well above average in quickness and speed.
Blow bys are directly related to him trying to back door a steal. That’s a mindset change.
He either gets it or he doesn’t.
Speed, acceleration, agility, vertical there is nothing even remotely weak or even average.
He is too short and not strong enough, while also being undisciplined. His natural feel for defensive playmaking is strong but he has to play better traditional defense

Pumping his stats on sandbag opponents is what he does best.

I am starting to see why he had 50% 3 pt in college.

Slow to move is not the same as slow moving.
He has to stop trying to go for the poke from behind.
He gets a lot of them but at the expense of defensive integrity.
He’s quick, he needs to change his mindset and move his feet to stay in front

Right now Udoka is just trying to let him prove he should stay on the court which I'm fine with.

But I hope at some point they actually try to use his shooting as a weapon off screens. His game isn't explosive enough to not utilize his biggest strength. While his shooting hasn't been consistently elite yet, defenses treat him like he is. He has the most perimeter gravity on the team aside from KD.

I dunno man I think Reed is really smart and quick to adapt I am sure Udoka already told him to stop gambling so if he is still getting blown by is it still a mindset change?

He is not a movement shooter from what I can see so having him come off screens wouldnt work. If his feet isnt set that shot isnt falling from what I have seen.

Reed Sheppard is 6’2” without shoes and has a 6’3” wingspan. I’m not sure that 1-2 inches will make or break him, but he isn’t 6”0”.

He has gotten stronger but needs to continue getting stronger and more confident than he has been on the defensive side. There are NBA players that are competent defenders at his height but they usually have a strong center of gravity and put a lot of effort on that side of the floor.

I don’t know what the future holds for Reed, but his perimeter shooting and passing have both improved early on so far. I’m not ready to write him off as a guaranteed role player.

I think he’s more raw mentally than anything.
The game is moving to fast mentally for him.
When he’s free flowing, he makes plays and can lock down. When he’s thinking he does boneheaded things. Resorts to the bad habits he’s always gotten away with.
    Just my opinion

His good games always against teams we were already beating anyway. We have already played 7 games when was the time he had a great performance and saved the team?

He had no problem shooting while moving college and he is elite at cutting off screens. So far he isn’t being ask to do that in the NBA. Time will tell if he does it well in the NBA… however right now he is primarily being ask to hit open 3’s and protect the ball. He is doing both of those things well early in the season… he has plenty of things to improve at, but hitting perimeter shots is the base for everything he does.

He is 6'1.75 without shoes. Having Trex arms when the trend is big guards now at 6'6 with 6'9 wingspan makes him nothing but a role player unless he has some exceptional skill.

Its not just him lots of small pgs are having horrible seasons Trae Young and Ja Morant included.

Reed played a really good offensive game tonight and was ok on defense even though he blew it a few times. It’s a positive that he is showing progress against NBA players whoever they might be. Now that Okogie, Jabari, Tari, Sengun, Durant, and soon DFS can knock down 3’s, it makes his fight for meaningful minutes even harder. We need him to improve enough to be a solid backup guard for the team as currently constructed to make a run at the championship. The tough part he has to do it by the deadline or they will make a trade.

Man the zone defense sucks and they play it a lot when Reed is on the floor. It’s a chicken and egg thing. Are they playing zone because of the 2 bigs and Sheppard? Or is Sheppard bad at defense, because he’s having to play so much zone? Of course, it could be both. I hope he can solidify the first guard off the bench role. I’d hate to give up any of our top 8 players to get a backup guard.

College and NBA very diff as we have seen with Adam Morrison and Jimmer Fredette. Lots of limited role players were superstars in college like TJ Mconnell.

TJ is actually my best case scenario for Reed. We can have a decent pg backup, a crying shame for a top 3 pick but it is what it is. Just my opinion.

Solid showing today. His process seems to be getting better and his defense just looked more sound today. He made the Grizz perimeter players feel him more beyond the 3 point line. Kinda wish he had more plays with the ball in his hands but good step forward game.

Did you think those guys overachieved or underachieved in the nba? I thought fredette was at best a late 2nd round talent who i think really overachieved in the nba. Morrison i thought had an outside chance to be an 8th man type but he failed.

Same **** every time. Reed plays well it doesn’t count. Reed plays badly he’s a bust. Rockets win? Who cares, it’s all about how bad Reed is.
