Random advanced stats post: Reed has had some pretty glaring weaknesses that really do pop on tape. He is defending 45%(!! 92nd percentile) of the opponents' rim attempts; his opponents are attacking him with intention and purpose. However, he offsets this with a BLKpct of 2.5%(76th percentile), and a rim defense stat of -0.5 (opponents shoot .5% worse when he is guarding their rim attempts vs their average). Amen has a rim frequency of 38%, and a BLKpct of 2.8% (80th percentile). And a rim defense stat of (-6.1, wow). Reed also boasts a 100th percentile deflection rate of 5.4 deflections per 36, absurd. However, his DTOV rate (the amount of defensive turnovers he causes per game) is an abysmal -0.5..(bottom 10th percentile) compared to Amen's 0.1 (64th percentile). Reed's defensive game definitely has holes, but he is not a complete negative. For reference, Jabari's DTOV rate is even worse than Reed's at -0.6.
What makes you think he's slow? Combine 3 quarter sprint had him 3.08. Faster than Buzelis, Castle, Bronny, Ajay Mitchell, and Jared Mccain. Shead, Dillingham, and Bronny came in shorter than Reed. He's a quarter inch shorter than Mccain and 1.5 inches shorter than Ajay. He also had the 4th highest max vertical leap and 6th highest standing vertical. That's out of 83 participants. So what basis are you using to say he's slow?
Matt Maloney had a very good rookie year. Started every game, including in the playoffs. Hit over 40% from 3. I don't see much of a resemblance, to be honest. Of course, Maloney benefited from 3 extra years in college.
Tbh i was glad we picked Reed. I had no illusions he had star potential like many because none of the pundits really said he did. I did however expect a sharpshooting sniper type. More a pg Redick/Korver than a Steph Curry type superstar. However we've got someone who's only more consistent than Jalen because he's consistently bad.
I won't argue, but if I'm honest, I see it going both ways. The whole "He'll be the next Stockton/Nash/Price" thing was pretty pointed.
His best comparison is Bobby Jackson. Take the open shots, if not open then pump fake and take the middy. It doesn't get any easier than this. You have 1 job, to shoot.
I don't know what he will be, but I would like him to work out with CP3 and Nash like everyone works out with Dream. DD
