The Rockets were never really focused on Jalen’s 3 pt shooting. They needed his ability to break down his man off the dribble and get into the lane. Unfortunately, he sucked at finishing and passing. Amen is completely changing that dynamic of our offense. Okogie is playing the role of an off-the-ball FVV would be playing and doing it better than FVV, because he is longer. Sheppard can have a Reddick or Korver type career if he keeps up the shooting, but he is not ready to be the first guard off the bench for a contender and because of his salary, he will probably be part of the package to bring in somebody to fill that role.
I think Reed will get traded this year for a backup point guard. Amen is the starting PG going forward.
There are a lot of players coming off benches with flaws. Not all of them are so young with potential to correct them. Moving better laterally is something that can be coached. He doesn't have horrible size, he's just not huge for his position.
Why would they trade him? He has the potential and skill set to fit with Amen perfectly. If he's so bad, he gets you nothing of value. If he's so good, why trade him?
Jalen Green was not a good defender at all until Ime coached it out of him. How about trust the coaches who got us this far?
So we're just going to play in hypothetical land where you can't be proven wrong because it's an alternate reality. What 40-45% 3pt shooters who play acceptable defense are out there? Bridges? Bane? How many rotation pieces and picks for such players? They may end up with a replacement level player. They may not also. It's not blind luck, the coaches and player will determine it.
This is an ignorant point. Wanting Reed to come off the bench and earn playing time isn't the same as starting and taking the most shots on the team with one of the worst efficiencies.
He's player about the same minutes Jalen did in calendar year 2021. How about a little patience? What did Durant shoot his rookie year?
Durant shot 28% from 3 as a rookie on 205 attempts. Reed is at 173 attempts in his career. I think you can say it's too early to call.
Obviously, you are a fan of Reed, Im more of a Rocket's fan. I just want the Rockets to win and since I see the flaws in his game and how playing Holiday would be a better option off the bench, it cause me to pinpoint the reason why Reed should be either further down the bench or in the G-League.
Jalen had the tools to become a better defender, the speed. He lacked drive and the want to, to be good defensively. That a big difference. Reed has good hand speed but not good foot speed.
So 173 attempts is a small sample size. But you don’t have a problem when people claim he’s a generational shooter based on his 144 attempts in college? I think we overestimated his shooting capabilities. I’m sure he can make open threes at a good rate. Guess what, a lot of people can. But it’s a whole lot different when you’re under high pressure with defenders in your grill.
I do not think the Rockets will trust Reed in the Playoffs this year and I think it will take years of development to get to that point of trust. We need a backup point guard to help reduce Amens minutes this season in Regular Season and Playoffs. His value is high right now because other teams see the talent but think he just needs minutes and a long leash to make mistakes. Reed has more minutes playing PG than Amen but Amen is clearly the better PG. Amens size allows him to play with a lot of types of players.
Amen has a flaw in his game. Why did we play him? You understand when you say I'm a fan for wanting a lottery pick to come off the bench and earn minutes how that makes you look, right?
