They do not have to be too old, 23 is too old, but getting someone who is already 21-22 should not be seen as taboo.

If it is a 23 year, he better be more than a good starter already.

Reed will never be TJ McConnell, I can tell you why, he does not have that much of a motor....but he seems to be more talented on paper that is, only on paper.

Reed is composed, that shouldn't be his downfall.

McConnell is the epitome of a smarter, less athletic Westbrook type of Energizer Bunny.

Those guys that actually have a skill or two and have the most energy or stamina. See Tari, Cason Wallace, Alex Caruso.

Outside of the lottery is always a bit of a crapshoot. Looking at Cam's draft class to see who we could have selected instead I don't see anyone notable outside of Toumani Camara, who was selected 52nd. The best prospect outside of the lottery that year looks to be Keyonte George, selected at #16, a freshman out of Baylor.

We've had pretty good luck with our non-lottery picks. Sengun was an international prospect and just turned 19 when we drafted him. Tari was a sophomore out of LSU. Really thought we knocked it out of the park with the Whitmore selection, but no such luck.

It's true it's a crapshoot, I'd classify Tari as being one of those older prospects though, and Sengun was a bit of an unusual case in that he was very polished for his age and very proven in Turkey (and also only two picks outside the lotto).

In Cam's draft class, I've mentioned before that I think Sasser would have been a good fit for us, in pure hindsight. He's not a guy I see as a big difference-maker for Detroit, but I do think he's a good roleplayer, kind of a bigger, better version of Aaron Holiday.

Cam made sense as a high upside swing at 20 given our current roster at the time. It didn’t pan out but at least we didn’t turn him into a negative asset for us by resigning him.

If you want to extend it to further outside of the lottery, 20th selection or later, the best players in the past ten drafts appear to be Jalen Brunson (junior, Villanova), Pascal Siakam (sophomore, New Mexico State), Tyrese Maxey (freshman, UK), Jalen Johnson (freshman, Duke), and Desmond Bane (senior, TCU). Lots of good role players too. It's all over the place. Upperclassmen and one and dones. Big schools and small schools. I really don't know if there is an ideal strategy that late in the draft.

I don't think he was blaming the people around him so much as saying he screwed up and put himself in a worse situation when it comes to his next contract.

Had he stayed here, he could have hidden at the end of the bench on a very deep team and when he gets a chance to play, he puts up numbers - some team might offer him a decent contract in FA.
In Washington, he's playing poorly on an early lottery team - he's showing who he is and that's not someone teams want to commit much money to.

He really needs to reinvent himself and his game ... because at this rate, he's not getting another NBA deal. He'll play in China or some other shithole league - keep this up, the Euro's won't even touch him.

TLDNR - It's Cam's fault that the people around him are around him ....

Cam needs to screw his head on tight. That's why he plays like a moron. The situation doesn't matter.

I doubt staying with the Rockets was an option. If he didn't want out, Rockets would have traded him anyway because they know he'd be a useless side-show on this stacked roster.

Cam is his own worst enemy because he has a serious personality problem (or disorder). Maybe before too late he'll realize he's not as good as he thinks he is and understand the whole world doesn't revolve around how many shots he gets to take.

It's great to follow him at a distance. I truly thought he would crack the rotation on that pathetic team, but apparently he can't even do that.

Cam has the talent, he's just highly immature. I won't have an opinion about him until he turns 25yrs old. Hopefully he's still in the NBA by then

he might be out of the league. once you get traded to a bad situation it's hard to find your footing. the NBA is where talent goes to die. Cam was not a lottery pick they aren't going to wait for him. Cam has the mentality as if he is a franchise player. He needs to have the mentality like he on a bread line.

I still like him, I am not giving up after 2 months, maybe after 2-3 years.......obviously he has to learn a lot.

My Curse is not as strong as DD's so it should not matter.

Lol that is the conclusion of the CF hobby analysts, but it could also be that is the only way he knows to play basketball.

Alas, he is out of the league and none of our concern.

After his playoff performance last season i'll take no TJ slander by comparing him to the miraculous missing midget.

No opportunities more than 11 minutes

Bilal Coulibaly is a all around player by far, defense and very high IQ.

There seem to be some parallels between Whitmore and Porter Jr.

I’ve mentioned this on the BBS but I have quite a few employees and many of them are young people. Sometimes you can change these guys, but sometimes that mindset is just ingrained in them and it’s hard to fully turn around.

in my experience, the most profitable thing, and the best thing for the business has always been to get rid of them fairly quickly.

I was extremely high on Whitmore, I even got really drunk on the night of the draft and posted when he started to fall. And there’s still a lot there to work with but I am going to lean toward making the assumption that the character issues are gonna linger for a long time.

Playing hungry keeps you in the League for a long time.

Patrick Beverley, Clint Capela high motor were the reason they got bench minutes then eventually starting lineup.

Cam Whitmore wants everything given to him, which is a incorrect way to go about it. Plus you must be able to play with a high motor on both ends. Cam offense is more Iso Plays in one on one. Rockets wanted a Team Offense.

Most times Cam drives into traffic turns the ball over and doesn't even try to run back on defense. He is like "I don't care" Mentality.
