I don't get Nowitzki comparisons at all. Nowitzki was a great shooter and scorer but not much of a playmaker. I could never imagine Dirk doing some of the things that Şengün does every game and vice versa. Players like Prozingis or KAT or Markannen are more similar to Dirk. If Dirk was in the league today he would be taking 8 3s per game but not play jumbo point guard like Alpi is doing. Alpi is literally Scola.
Nowitzki is literally a version of Kevin Durant and Rashard Lewis, I am surprised not many mentioned this. I do think Nowitzki was much more humble than real Kevin Durant.
He plays more like Ginobili than Scola. I don’t get the big man comparisons. What other center gets the ball at the top of the key for a dribble isolation. He plays like a guard. The side step, euros, the floaters, the sneaky athleticism, the risky passes and now he slowly developing a three. We have 6 foot 10 Ginobili.
Man, he had some fantastic plays in the last game. The crisp passing, dunks, and smooth hookshot. He is FUN to watch.
Just needs to perfect the one legged jumper. He's been working on it in game, it'll fall eventually. He should try going glass Tim Duncan-style. It'd add a nice wrinkle to his bread and butter baseline spine move. If the defender cuts off the baseline, he can just spin the other way for a bank shot.
Finally he became the ball hog his haters always labeled him to be. Too bad it also led to the best offense in the league.
Still learning but already a great floor general. As much as it saddens me that Fred's out for the season, it probably helped Sengun unlock his true potential.
