Two tiny Chicago-based educational toymakers sued in April to invalidate the tariffs as exceeding Trump’s authority

In arguments this ciming Wednesday, the court will consider striking down most of the tariffs Trump has imposed since taking office,
potentially affecting trillions of dollars in trade.

A ruling against Trump would undercut his ability to use tariffs as an all-purpose tool to wring concessions out of trading partners and could mean refunds exceeding $100 billion.

Should the tariffs be struck down, small and mid-sized companies will be able to claim credit.

Trump had said that he will he would be at the Supreme Court on Wednesday for oral arguments in the case that
will determine the fate of many of his wide-ranging tariffs.

But he backpeals---TACO--now says he will not attend.

I am going to be SHOCKED if it's not the normal 6-3 in favor of trump over the tariffs, even though the Constitution is pretty clear, there is ALWAYS wiggle room to do the king`s bidding. This would be the LARGEST tell by scotus, if they back trump I will have lost the minuscule faith I have for them to do the right thing

Supreme Court justices raise concerns about Trump tariffs in central case

Chief Justice John Roberts and others probed whether Trump has claimed more power than presidents
have been given under either federal law or the Constitution.

“And that has always been the core power of Congress,” he said.

several conservative justices joined their liberal colleagues in expressing unease about the broad authority Trump claimed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to impose tariffs on imports. They sharply questioned Solicitor General D. John Sauer on the Trump administration's legal justification of the tariffs, which critics say infringes on the power of Congress to tax.

If the Supreme Court backs trump’s attempt to steal from Congress their sole power to tax, then the far-right majority is essentially turning our country into an authoritarian state.

During the Nov. 5 oral arguments in the USSC, Chief Justice Roberts noted the word “tariff” doesn’t appear in the statute, which has historically been used by presidents to issue sanctions on other countries. Instead, Roberts explicitly said tariffs are a tax ‒ a term Trump and the White House officials have tried to avoid in describing the duties on imports.

Roberts said the power to levy taxes has "always been the core power of Congress,” not the executive branch.

    Trump TACOs on,

Thomas and Alito will do anything, anything, Trump wants. I guarantee you Trump's been on the phone with them.

I can point out the far-right politics of the aforementioned judges, but it is, indeed, all about the grift. They even have evidence of Thomas taking mo-money, mo-money, mo-money gifts from those who had cases before the Supreme Court.

Basically, to argue before the Supreme Court, you're talking to the four other Federalist Society judges and hoping that Leonard Leo isn't sitting behind them for a change. The Federalist Society will look for any chink in the armor that gives Trump a win.

The tariffs ruling might be an exception, but there's always that possible Leonard Leo phone call: "Remember why we put you there. Don't go soft on us."

Leading betting odds markets suggest traders believe the Supreme Court is unlikely to side with Trump on the tariffs.

The oral arguments were rough for the Trump administration. The justices’ questions highlighted a variety of ways the case could be decided, most of which suggest Trump is going to lose

Chief Justice Roberts seemed to indicate that the tariffs were a tax on the American people, which is a power of Congress.

Justice Gorsuch said “Congress, as a practical matter, can’t get this power back once it’s handed over to the president. It’s a one-way ratchet toward the gradual but continual accretion of power in the executive branch and away from the people’s elected representatives.”
