I’m loving the defense and overall play of Jabari to start the season hopefully he keeps it up. Looks like Durant has made a positive impact on him
There’s a lot of teams that will be overwhelmed by our size and not stand a chance, the gravity of the big G leads to many high quality looks and open 3’s. If we hit those at a high clip, we’re really really hard to beat.
I feel like this is one of the deepest and most talented rosters in Rockets history. Durant is still playing at a high level and Sengun, Amen, Bari, Tari, and Reed are improving. Alpi and Amen are already playing at all star levels and are walking triple doubles. We’ve blown out the last three teams by 20+. Very excited for this season!
I really like what coaching and leadership have done with adjustments this year. Abandoning the double big to start games, pushing the pace on offense, changing up who brings the ball up all game, it just feels like we're going with what works, abandoning bad ideas quickly and there seems to be a lot of trust for each and every player. Amazing shooting all year.
Size has really caused a lot of fouls this year. I am a little surprised about how few calls have gone against Rocket defenders. I get the Rockets are fouling less without Brooks, but it feels like Patrick Mahomes is the PG for the Rockets. Offensive rebounding is great as always. Turnovers...with as great as the Rockets offense has been, turnovers has been the only weakness. Weird that the number 1 offense has such a glaring weakness that if improved could make the offense even better.
The additional offensive dynamism generated because Fred isn't playing has the cost of more turnovers. I think it could be argued Fred would have kept a lid on TOs but also on the offense in general.
From what I surmise, we're barely scratching the surface. Assuming health, between organic growth, chemistry, and additions....our window will open wide come playoff time.
It could be argued that, but there is very little evidence that shows the same 4 players during the same time period play better without FVV than with while there is almost a decades worth showing the opposite. Granted, the Rockets are unbelieveably hot from 3 right now such that just about any change is likely to cause the Rockets to play worse than they did (butterfly effect). The only drawback I would see is that it may have taken the Rockets longer to recognize how good Okogie is. I don't think FVV would elevate the offense much more than it has been (assuming no butterfly affecting how others are shooting). Still, an FVV-Amen-Okogie-Durant-Sengun lineup likely matches up well with OKC as the top defense. The Rockets are likely 5-0 right now because Reed would have played less if FVV was healthy.
I’m happy our offense is clearly better than last year; specifically the shooting efficiency. im happy Steven Adams looks fully healthy and is outplaying his contract by a lot. Trading for Adams is one of the best moves Stone has made. Happy KD is as good as I thought he’d be and playing selfless ball. He is team oriented and fitting right in. Im happy Okogi looks like a steal for the min. I’ll leave my positive comments on our young pups for a larger sample size.
1. We have barely even begun to work KD into our offense. By mid-season, we will be downright scary. 2. Alpi, Amen, and Jabari are already playing like seasoned pros at ages 22-23. 3. We've managed to reclaim the rights to future G-League MVP Diashen Nix!
what is "dynamism"? If it is pace, we’re bottom of the league in pace… If you mean that our guys now move the ball with more purpose, that has 100% to do with replacing Jalen Green and to a lesser extent Dillon Brooks. FVV has never been the cause of stagnation
I'd put it mostly on Durant is better than Green, everyone is making shots, Adams controls the glass, and Sengun has been crazy good these past 5 games. Blaming FVV makes it seem like Durant, Sengun, and others aren't responsible for how great they are playing.
I think it is pretty delusional to think FVV in this offense would be an even trade off. I get the loyalty, because he was a steady hand when this team needed it. I supported the original contract and compliment his defense. Our backcourt was awful last year on offense and, yes, FVV was part of the problem. This team still hasn’t developed synergy and is kicking ass. The spacing is much better and it’s not only because of Durant. It is because Amen can actually penetrate and makes the correct reads, unlike Jalen. FVV spent way too much time dribbling the air out of the ball and walking it up and it had a positive impact on turnovers, but made the offense entirely predictable and produced lousy spacing.
