Crazy thing is that none of those picks were off-the-wall reaches. They just all have managed to underperform in ways varying between "meh" and "out of the league unplayable"

I was shocked when he took Scruggs. I'm an Ohio State fan and watched Scruggs play at PSU and he was nothing special. He was at PSU 4 years and B1G media voted him to their THIRD team all-conference AFTER his senior season. He was a decent college football guard but there was NOTHING to suggest that he was going to be a decent NFL guard and Caserio used a 2nd round pick on him? Horrible pick. Just DUMB.

...and Scruggs was the one I was thinking about when I said "meh" in my last post

I would have been ok with Scruggs using a sixth, but a second?

Kenyon Green is the one that absolutely kills me. He was a mauler at A&M, then somehow completely forgot how to play basic OL the minute he came to Houston.

To paraphrase Jerry Glanville, when Green was thinking about the NFL he didn't realize that stands for "Not For Long"

I have a feeling Cal and Hannah might push them to put more resources into the O-line. Which they should have done last year. They have an extra 2nd from the commanders use that and the first idc. Atleast show that you are trying

Re-sign Ingram and let Tomlinson go/retire. That leaves Howard, Ersery, Ingram, Andrews, Scruggs, Patterson and Fisher as the returning OLine room. They carried 10 linemen on the Roster this year so let's assume they do the same next year. That leaves 3 roster spots for new blood:

    1) Sign a free agent center to compete with Andrews - there are options out there but the Texans need to have an option that at least makes Andrews earn the spot moving forward.

    2) Draft either Kadyn Proctor or Isaiah World in round 1 - Rookie v Ersery for LT. If Ersery keeps that spot then the Rook goes to RT and Howard to LG. If the Rookie takes the LT spot then Ersery goes to LG with the inside track for RT after Howard walks in another season.

    3) Draft Chase Bisontis in the 3rd or Cayden Green in Round 4- both guys have tackle length and agility in a pinch. Depth in year 1 with expectation of starting at LG in year 2

    4) Max Iheanachor or Blake Miller in Round 5 - I think either has a fair chance at taking Blake Fishers spot given what we've seen this year. This is likely unnecessary but for a 5th rounder id give it thought.

    Proctor/World - Ersery - Andrews - Ingram - Howard

Scruggs, Bisontis, Patterson IOL depth with Fisher and Ersery backing up OT.

    Dametrious Crownover OT Texas A&M

    Height: 6 - 7 | Weight: 335 lbs | RAS: N/A

Dametrious Crownover has the tools to win the allure of an NFL team in the first two rounds, and he's quickly trending up on the operational side. The 6'7", 335-pound blocker was originally a tight end recruit -- if you can believe it. He played two ways between TE and defensive end in high school, before being molded into a starting offensive tackle in College Station. He first became a full-time starter in 2024, and he hasn't relinquished the right tackle job since. At his size, with over 35" arms, Crownover is truly an overwhelming physical specimen, with the powerful explosion and force potential to plow defenders out of gaps. But beyond his run game utility, he's visibly grown as a pass protector. He has a clean pass set, good patience, and strong anchor footwork, and he seems destined to eventually start on the NFL stage.

He's ranked 50 in the simulator, but missing in Draft Buzz. But I like the versatility and mass. I envision him in a heavy role like Blake Fisher, but with TE and DE experience (High School) and mindset. His potential weight control would have to be a critical par of his evaluation. But 335 at 6'7" isn't bad if it's mostly muscle.

I'm imagining a world where we get Mauigoa and move him to G with our 1st pick and Crownover with one 2nd Bradford with the other 2nd with
Ersery and Howard stepping up. Ersery, Mauigoa, Bradford, (Howard and Crownover with inside and outside to be determined)

Yeah Scruggs has never been good. Ryan's knew that they needed a center in the worst way and told Caserio to draft him a center. Caserio drafted the best center on his board. It was certainly a reach. I'm hoping this off-season Caserio signs a vet center in FA and drafts at least one OG. This is why I hoped Caserio would trade for Jackson Powers Johnson yesterday.

Give me Bisontis or Reed-Adams over this guy. I also like the LT at A&M over this guy. I also like Zuhl more than Crownover. I think he's going to make a fine RT in the NFL
