Well my Sundays just opened up at the right time to hit the wineries, I will not be watching anymore - so you guys should have an easier time here. I just can't stand stupidity, - it is the little things that matter, and DeMeco sucks at those.....Payton wins because he outsmarts other coaches....DeMeco thinks it is a muscles game - and he is clueless in clock management and offense. Time to hit the bottle. DD
You're not wrong, but this defense is built to play with the lead. It's a small d line that operates essentially in a wide 9 stance and they break time and time again in close games. When the offense gets the lead early and they are able to pin their ears back, the defense is awesome. I'm not crushing the defense, it's just with Mills in there they were going to have to basically win the game for us, and they gave up every single possible play to make sure of it, again, at the worst possible times. And yeah, with a semi competent offense we win by 10+. If CJ plays smart and doesn't slide late, we likely win this game going away. I guess my point overall is this team is just built and designed really haphazardly, it doesn't make much sense. We have a, let's call it unproven, o-line but we also have an extremely thin running back room, so we can't do enough on the ground. We have a good QB, but we have a lot of young, inexperienced WRs. We also don't have a playmaking or 2 dimensional tight end. Then on defense, it's a defense that would probably be completely generational if playing with an offense that could jump out to early leads. But they aren't big enough to man up in the redzone and they're too undisciplined to be relied on when the game is on the line. The reason I complain about this defense, despite all their fancy stats, is because they are supposed to be the anchor of this team, and no matter how well you play each week, if you crumble under pressure at the most pivotal moment of the game, which they realistically have done at least three times now, then you can't really be relied upon as the anchor of the team.
4th quarter under 1 minute to go was an absolute **** show, inside a dumpster, inside of a pig farm, it stunk. An absolute amateur hour. At your own 20 and you are trying to move the ball with Mills who has been looking down receivers the last 5 pass attempts. There's apparently no coaching keeping the clock moving because he proceeded to throw multiple incomplete passes instead of running it. Denver didn't use a time out and the rest is history. Also, teams know that the Texans never spy the QB during critical downs. Every team know this by now.
After the first two goal line failures, I knew they were going to lose. When it was 15-7 in the 3rd quarter, I felt what was coming. When it was tied in the 4th, I think we all knew what was going to happen. They have a championship-level defense that is being completely wasted by a broken offense. I'm gonna (try to) tap the brakes a bit on the Texans for a few games.
No no, they can make mistakes, but they don't get to the QB enough and they've given up absolutely killer QB runs. And many of their stops are "well thank the Heavens the QB is stupid and didn't run, or the WR dropped a wide open catch." They're going to get criticism when they're on the field and they blow the game at the end. If the mindset is oh well, dam was going to break eventually, then what the **** are we doing with a defensive minded coach and a team where significant resources have been spent on the defensive side of the ball. It's like if you have two children and one of them is usually a straight A student while the other you're happy if they get a B. But during finals week your straight A student decides to go on a bender of coke and alcohol rivaling Charlie Sheen. It's upsetting.
The defense is the only reason I'm willing to give Demeco another year, because it is amazing. Demeco might be a prodigy when it comes to defenses, his defenses are always amazing and he came here and turned that around INSTANTLY. Even if key guys go out, the defense doesn't miss a beat. He finds ways to use players and put them in their best roles... But if the offense continues to be this bad he has to take some blame. Like if its 3rd and 1 and Caley is again calling a run up the middle at some point he has to go "Hey, stop, do something else." at some point he has to see this isn't good enough and his OCs are going to lose him this job. Because yeah, if we get any kind of lead, this defense gets to go, the DEs can just pass rush and cause havoc but they never get to do so. And yeah I agree, we probably win this with Stroud, CJ probably gets a TD sometime in this game, but Mills got down there again and again the team cannot even score. I always watch these games with the family and it actually became a comedy with how predictable it is. I'm just imagining the defensive players going "Man, we got a stop and gave the offense about a minute left...worse thing that can happen is OT probably..." then they go out and watch Mills throw 3 incomplete passes and now they are going right out on the field and now have to play perfect because the offense could not EVEN get good enough field position for a good punt. That has to be so disheartening, they actually DID get the big stop, that's the thing, but the offense went out there and literally gave the ball right back. Special teams and defense has to make up completely for the offense so for me I just can't blame them. Offense has to do a little more, I feel like they don't even do the bare minimum at this point.
The refs should have ran the clock after the 5 yard completion. It was a completely missed call. You're not wrong that it wasn't managed well, but then again Demeco has been pretty poor with game management so I'm not surprised.
I was not impressed with Denver, we could have whooped them but Caley is just a waste of space, Demeco needs to man up and let him go after this gameā¦
There is not even one fiber of my being that is convinced of this. It's really cute that that stats are great and all, but even if the offense was good do you have any confidence whatsoever that in the playoffs they would step up the the plate and shut down elite opposing QBs late in games? I truly think this is delusional. Maybe I am delusional. idk. Championship caliber defenses don't turn into rancid garbage with the game on the line, they elevate their play.
This is where I'm at, I'm not exactly rooting for losses because F that, I don't like rooting for my team to lose...but if they are drafting top 10 I won't be mad. Get a new GM in here because Caserio can't/won't fix the oline, let them pick an OC, and just see where things are at.
