Meanwhile, Jock is playing for 2 million bucks in Memphis, and looks pretty dang good. With Capela, we are paying far more and getting less. For the next three seasons.
I agreed we needed a 3rd center but not necessarily Capela, I would have wanted a young guy like NFaly Dante. We needed a 3rd center because Adams plays double big with Sengun so they need a 2nd backup. Previous games Capela looks like crap a step slow and has 0 defensive awareness despite being an old ass vet. However this Boston game he actually had a couple good possessions maybe he just needs some time to get in shape.
I am well aware that Jock was making 8M with the Rockets. We waived him and he wasn’t picked up by any other teams, he then became an unrestricted free agent. Memphis signed him to a minimum deal. The Rockets could have also offered him a new deal for far less than 8M to return for the Rockets. Jock wasn’t a great player, but he had his moments. So far, he appears to be giving Memphis more than what Capela his giving the Rockets for 1/3 the cost.
The idea of what Clint gives the Rockets is a better fit than Jock. Thing is, Clint is playing like an old fossil who is barely functional. If he doesn't improve, Rockets have a problem. I hope when DFS returns and gets up to speed, Clint moves to scrub time only.
When signed I thought he was a trading block with his contract. The length doesn’t really make sense to me. Jabari is our third string center. The spacing opens up the offense just with catch and shoot.
The ship may have sailed on Jabari being the 3rd-string C. The offense is just fine. Capela's contract could end up being traded filler.
People complaining about Capela has been bewildering to me. Yes, he has looked a little rusty, but he is trying to play himself into shape. Last night he had 10 rebounds in only 18 minutes. He was brought in to be a poor man's Adams, and he is already there. I think Capela is really excited to be back in Houston and will get into shape quickly. In a month he will have one of the best non rookie bench contracts in the league.
100% agree. As usual, there are many clueless ones out there who do not know what a steal we have with CC. Career double double MACHINE when playing 20+ minutes. Thrilled we got this guy on the cheap. When Sengun goes down eventually for his annual injury, this blog will be in the dustbin. We are so so lucky to have the double double (tall) machine on our side and not teaming up with VW in San Antonio or elsewhere!!!!!
Obviously it's not the same situation but when Steven Adams first started playing with us last season after coming back from his injury, he was rusty as all hell and was pretty ineffective his first few games, to the point that a lot of people were calling him washed or equally mean things. Clint has looked a lot less springy than his first stint here, but he's older and as you said--still rounding into form. Hopefully by the all-star break we'll all be witnesses to a rejuvenated Capela.
Great post, I was one of the people that thought Adam's was washed early last season because he was so slow. I'd like to see pick and roll with Thompson and Capela, similar action to when Harden would either shoot the floater or lob to Capela.
Capella give us a lot of versatility. And protection against injury. And I would be absolutely shocked if he finishes that contract in Houston. Frankly, I don’t even know if he’ll be here past this upcoming trade deadline. I think that he has looked OK when he has been on the court and probably will get better as the year goes on.
At the Buffet line? Dude looks like he swallowed 2021 James Harden for the main course and swallowed FVV for dessert.
I adore Clint for his contributions during the years Harden made him a viable nightly threat. But, as everyone knows , he will be incredibly valuable for a contender with injury worries. And/or he'll find his way in DC/Philly or Sactown/NO.
