Based on his play so far, I can definitely conclude he was the best player the Rockets have drafted since 2024.
At this point of his career, he's not a point guard. He should be tied to amen, KD and ALP minutes. Release valve running around screens. But thats not what hes getting to play out of need. To become a point guard, he's going to need more time. And that's okay. If he nets us a point guard in a win now move, so be it. If he can bite his time until he continues to develop or the Rockets get a backup point guard outside of him, better.
On offense, Reed needs to get his midrange shot back. We've seen him hit those last season and in preseason. For some reasons, he's missing the open middies. He also needs to stop picking up his dribbles when he gets into the paint. Kid, if you aren't shooting, don't pick up! He clearly has good vision and can make good passes. But he panics whenever he gets inside the paint. On defense, he had improved in the Celtics game, trying to stay in front of the ball handler. He was also more aware in switching and rotation situations. He still has the stealing instinct, sometimes good most of the times bad. He needs to learn when to gamble and when to stay disciplined. Listen to Kenny Rogers's "The Gambler."
I think It also allowed him to "bank a win". End the night with an overall positive impact on both ends is good for the youngster.
I still feel he is ultimately a combo guard and can be a great connector and sniper. I like this current role for Reed as it feels more like what he was going to be doing before FVV went out.
Neither is a starter on a good team to me, at least not yet. Green had four years and he is a pretty established product. Reed has barely played but hasn't looked great. Both look like bench players now. Green could start on a team where he is the third scorer, maybe second. Reed needs to improve a lot to be a starter. Who would I take? Depends on what I want on my team today. Microwave scorer who plays his role (off the bench) and can get 15-18 points a night would be Green IF he can learn to play smart. No hero ball. If I need a shooter as a secondary ball handler then I'd take Reed. Green has played 9000 more regular season minutes than Reed. Give Reed the 10,000 minutes Green has played and then compare him to Green right now.
Great post. These Reed bashers are almost all the same bashers of Alpi for years. The one who lives in the Philippines who is the most prolific poster and a basher of Reed to about manic proportions just rants and raves as if Reed is the resurrection of Hasheem Thabeet. Reed, despite his relative inexperience and flaws in defense has contributed well to the ball movement and increased offensive pace whenever he is on the court. As you mentioned, he has the least turnovers among the ball handlers, and he has noticeably improved well from handling the opponents' blitzes that often panicked Jalen and caused him to turnover the ball at the most critical moments of the game. He has even avoided picking up his dribble at inopportune moments which was one of the most annoying parts of his game. I hope these bashers can just enjoy the game and the team without their crazed obsession with Reed. Reed is fine and the team is fine.
I hope you know that Ja was suspended again for some kind of team violation. I don't know if Ime and the FO will have the patience to tolerate his shenanigans. We already saw a sampling of how bad it is to have a head case on the team with KPJ. Ja is far worse.
TBH I'm filipino and I clearly see that JG is all run fast straight anb jump high front running chucking loser and so as other filipinos and I'm all for giving Reed at even just half of the chances and opportunites Jalen had before being traded curious who is the poster you are talking about
Beautiful country, and yall have great food, I wish there was a family-run restaurant around here, it's been a while.
I don’t see how people can be so down on him. He’s looked much better this year and he’s definitely playable
Here and there in the Hill Country. I'm about 1+ hours away from a reputable Filipino restaurant in Austin (if you somehow have a favorite, please let me know), I just haven't made that excursion yet.
Some people have a serious ax to grind about Reed. It got over-the-top emotional last year for one guy. When Reed is perceived to get too much credit from folks here, others feel a need to become argumentative to dampen the enthusiasm. I've was extremely critical of Reed early last year because he 100% deserved it. But it's a brand new year and he's clearly much improved. I hope he plays well enough to maintain 20+ mins/game the entire season and be a factor in the playoffs. Long way to go.
I'm from Houston and it think its worth making an excursion to try Jollibee, Gerry's Grill, and Max's. I also heard military bases usually have good Filipino food trucks around them. What's your favorite dishes most of them are easy to cook just follow recipes in the web ingredients can be bought an asian grocery store
Asian grocery stores are also about ~1 hours away from me in North Austin I miss wandering around Hong Kong Mall and the like in Houston. Never thought about the military bases wrt interesting food trucks. Alas, Fort Hood is even farther away than Austin. You're not wrong though, I can cook anything if I have a couple of recipes to play off of and the ingredients.
