there are other option besides just drafting your pick. You can trade out of the draft. You can trade back in the draft. Teams do it all the time. I’m sure our guys do the best they can but they got it wrong with Jalen and all I’m saying is that I don’t see Reed as being a better prospect than several players taken after him. So I’m disappointed. I hope he surprises me, but 21 isn’t young for a prospect. If he doesn’t really blossom this year I think fans are right to be disappointed.

Jalen wasnt really though. Mobley isnt great (not at that pick anyway) and its highly likely we dont draft Sengun had we drafted Mobley. And Sengun is just a way better player. So hypothetically speaking lets say we still drafted Sengun at 16, who is best case at 2? Barnes? Blah. Its probably Wagner right?

Oh, I'm disappointed too. I think it's still too early to judge Reed and his contemporaries. That 2024 draft class is pretty flat. We still can't really see which ones separate themselves from the pack.

Should we have traded the pick? Maybe. But if you account for the options of trades, then it will make it really complicated because there are so many possible variables.

My point was that if you have to judge a pick at its position, you need to take into account the availabilities at that point. Draft position without context is not very meaningful.

I understand the Jalen vs Mobley debate and the Sengun picture. From hindsight, we should have drafted Sengun #2 and whoever we might pick at 16 had a good chance to be a more valuable player than Jalen.

Each player's situation is different. In Jalen's case, it's not that he's a trashy player. He could be a decent 6th man off the bench. But since he's drafted #2 and has been treated as a star player that requires a fairly big contract and a high pecking order on the roster, the opportunity cost is huge.

In Cam's case, he didn't pan out. But it was a low pick. There were some players available at that pick that could have been a better choice. But those guys aren't really star players. Losing them doesn't cost too much.

As for Reed, there aren't any players that have shown to be difference makers for sure, not yet. After another year or two, we'll see.

A year in the draft looks as bad or worse than it was perceived to be. Steph Castle being the rookie of the year pretty much sums it up.

Looking through the list there really was a huge drop off in that 21 draft. I think at 16, had we taken Sengun at 2, the best option for us wouldve been Austin Reaves. But if we're doing the hindsight thing I dont think Reaves is there at 16.

Yeah he’d better, because he’s at best average on everything else.

It's pretty sad to see how the jalen bois have fallen...

Comparing Jalen to a 19 year old who played like 200 minutes....

You know, if the Rockets were trying to win in 2021, Jalen may have only played 200 minutes too...

Jalen can't shoot 3s and he can't finish in the paint.

He was given 4 years. We know what he is.

    Reed is still a mystery.

Well, he has virtually no nba sample size. It's literally about the first 2 months of a rookie season.

I'll tell you what, since you like small sample sizes, like 5 or 6 tournament games, how about I just pick out a half a dozen games myself????
